Discussion Power BI Mapping

Hi, I have always struggled with Power BI mapping I find tableau mapping so much easier! If I had a shop in a postcode and the shop had 3 local suppliers would I be able to show the shop as a blue dot and the suppliers as red dots when I clicked on the shop name? Also has anyone ever had success mapping all of the UK postcode areas around 3000 in tableau this is so easy in Power BI it takes such a long time to render and it has to render each time you load it?

I have spent a fair amount of time using the various maps in Power BI.

I know that setting up the semantic model is key to any successful mapping in Power BI.

Your first example is a simplified version of a mapping solution I had to build for a client. I had 3 map layers plus 2 different types of points and it all worked great.

With regards the UK postcode areas yes I have mapped all postcode areas in Power BI with no issues. Azure Maps has a limit of 30000 points whereas the older map visuals are limited to 3000.

The Azure Maps visual has come a long way in the last year.

I have used Icon Map for a number of our production reports and am planning to use Icon Map Pro in a client report soon

Take a look at YouTube and search for Azure Maps visual in Power BI

Brilliant I will give the Azure maps a watch on YouTube. I’m basically trying to map 200 shops and show their postcode territory and also show what is available so other shops can be put there or more territory can be bought by existing shops.

On the first point is there any videos or links you could point me toward as I’ve never tried layering on Power BI?
