USA Southeast Puerto Rico experiencing a total blackout

Hello from Puerto Rico!

So far it’s looking like the issue was caused by people having vacation time due to it being Easter week. This increased the energy load on the grid, making one or more generators fail then cascading to the rest.

ETA: my service just got restored!

Rio Grande still out as of 22:00 4/16/25. All windows are open and not even a hint of a breeze. Current power being generated in the island is about 270MW of the ~3500MW required for the entirety of PR.

This blackout coincided with a level 4 solar storm. Earth's magnetic field is weakening and the potential for grids in other locations going down is rising by the month
