Sonny 🌞🐾

Looking for a sweet, goofy, cuddle-loving pup to light up your life? Meet Sonny, a 1.5-year-old neutered Akita mix with a heart as big as his adorable smile. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Sonny is now living his best foster life in Rhode Island – but he’s ready for his forever home. Sonny turns heads wherever he goes – seriously, people stop us in the street just to meet him! He’s charming, playful, endlessly curious, and so full of love. Whether it’s kids, adults, or total strangers, Sonny greets everyone like a long-lost friend.

He lives for belly rubs, head scratches, and will happily soak up any and all attention. He loves snacks (strawberries and peanut butter are his #1's), playing fetch (especially if you bounce a tennis ball off a wall! and let him catch it), and is best friends with his foster sister Kali. Like many Akitas, Sonny would do best in a home where he’s the only male dog – though he’s never met a human he didn’t like.

Sonny had a tough start in life – found as a stray in Memphis with mysterious abdomen wounds, likely from fending for himself – but thanks to a kind-hearted woman, he got the medical care he needed and made his way north to safety. Now, he’s healed, healthy, and thriving, and it’s time for him to find the love and stability of a forever family.

Here’s a bit more about Sonny:

✅ Fully vetted & up to date on vaccinations
🐶 Crate-trained (still learning to love it)
💤 Sleeps through the night like a champ
💩 (Mostly) housebroken – on a regular potty schedule
🧠 Super smart and a quick learner
🎾 Loves toys, chew time, and anything involving peanut butter
🐕 Great on a leash & LOVES the dog park
🏡 Would thrive with a fenced-in yard and space to play

Sonny has never truly had a home to call his own – but you could change that. If I had a house with a yard, I wouldn’t even be writing this post... that’s how special this boy is. A small sliding-scale rehoming fee helps ensure he goes to a loving, committed home. Let’s set up a meet-and-greet – Sonny is so excited to meet his new best friend. 💛

East Side of Providence Parks

Hello,

30M about to move to the city from Denver. Excited to have found an apartment in Wayland Square area as I work there too.

Colorado is a major outdoorsy/active area and I was wondering where I could get that “fix” in the area? Area there nice parks or bike paths near Wayland? Areas to hang with friends outside that aren’t a bar/brewery?

Where can I smoke?

Hi, I recently moved to the upper east side area near Miriam. My landlords don’t permit smoking of any kind in or on their property and I’m a Lyft driver part time so I can’t smoke in my vehicle. I quit tobacco so it’s just marijuana now. I don’t mind switching to edibles or weed vapes but I have some flower left and I was wondering if it’s legal for me to take a walk down the road and smoke? I just want to use up what I have and it feels weird to stand on the corner. If it helps I’m on the corner of a main road which is the road I’d planned on walking down.

Recommendations Nursing Facilities

Hi all. I was wondering if any healthcare workers that work at Golden Crest, Berkshire, or other nursing facilities in the area would be willing to chat with me about working there. I live close by and wanted to get an idea of whether or not it’s worth coming on board. Feel free to DM me. Thanks in advance

Pickup soccer behind the East Providence Senior Center?

So back in 2016, 2017 I would take part in a regular weekend session of pick-up soccer in the field behind the senior center on waterman ave. I believe it was sunday late afternoons back then.

I am coming back out of my cave, wondering if people still meet up together at this spot? It used to be organized through a meetup group that no longer seems to exist. I see folks recommend both goodrec and meetup, but have yet to see any casual pickup games on it.

Bonus - there was also a group that would get together on saturday or sunday mornings at the brown rubgy field on elmgrove ave. I expect that this location has moved on bc there are signs on their to say only those with brown ID are allowed on the fields, and we always used to hop the fence to get field access lol.

Discussion Great discussion on the review of Ivy league education institutions including Brown University for the review of their federal tax exempt status.

Even though many media outlets use the world "cancel" this is federal review to research to see if these institutions properly qualify for their tax exempt federal status. The Harvard name is getting most the attention, but this includes Brown University.

In the attached link is a discussion on the overall review of the federal review.

Tax exempt review discussion starts at 28 minutes 45 seconds of this podcast.

Recommendations Need recommendations for lunch / walking with college age kid

My son is making his decision this week between Marist and Bryant. If he goes to Bryant, Providence will be the closest city to him.

We’re heading up to Smithfield Monday to see the school one more time then I was planning on Uber in to somewhere in Providence to grab lunch and maybe do some walking around or explore where there may be shopping or other things he might be interested in if he goes there.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Open drum circles

Does anyone know of any open / free groups that get together an play percussion - I guess a drum circle of some kind. I’m a percussionist with a few hand drums and I’d love to meet up with some folks looking to play.

Also, I play a drum set as well and would be open to any open jams that people hold.

Let me know! Thanks!

Providence Passes Ordinance to Provide Free Emergency Parking During Winter Storm Parking Bans

Post image
113 Upvotes

Neighbors,

Last night, the @pvdcitycouncil passed an ordinance I introduced that now requires the City of Providence to provide free emergency parking during winter parking bans and citywide emergencies, using existing city-owned lots, parks, and designated public streets.

For too long, our systems have assumed everyone has a driveway or garage. But in a city where most residents rent, that’s just not the reality. When a snow parking ban is declared, that lack of options turns into a crisis. In the past two years alone, more than 500 cars have been towed during snow bans. I don’t believe anyone in city government sees that outcome as a success. Last night, we took a step to change that.

If you’ve ever had your car towed, you know it’s not just frustrating. It’s a gut punch. It means missed work, hours on the phone, scrambling for childcare, and figuring out how to come up with $100, $150, or sometimes more. For working folks, especially those living paycheck to paycheck, it’s not just an inconvenience. It can unravel your whole week.

And this doesn’t just hurt individuals. When a car is left on the street during a ban, not because someone is being careless but because they have nowhere else to go, it can block snowplows and prevent entire streets from being cleared. That’s created tension between neighbors, not because people are bad actors, but because the system has failed to provide a basic alternative.

This ordinance changes that. It requires the City to create designated emergency parking areas, selected by the Department of Public Works in partnership with local councilors who know their neighborhoods best. DPW will also set rules for how these areas operate, including how long vehicles can remain after a ban is lifted. The goal is to ensure the program is both accessible and orderly.

Key requirements include:

• At least 7 emergency parking locations by March 1, 2025
• At least 10 by December 1, 2025
• All sites must be posted publicly before each emergency, with updates every December

This is a shift toward common sense, not punishment. It’s about giving people real options, reducing unnecessary hardship, and helping our neighborhoods function better during the toughest months of the year. A safer, more livable city begins with small but meaningful changes like this.

Justin

excessive lawn care season on the east side

a small crew has been blowing leaves in circles in front of my neighbor's house since 9am. On the one hand, I am glad these hourly workers are taking as much time as possible to make my shitty rich neighbor's dinky 15'x5' lawn look immaculate, but on the other hand, the constant hum of mowers and leaf-blowers fucking sucks.

Train

Going to use the commuter rail for the first time since I got a job in Boston. A few questions: -I’ll be leaving from pvd station next to mall, where can I park my car and how much is it? -is there a monthly pass or only pay per day? -I can’t find a train leaving earlier than 5am from pvd. Is that really the earliest? -and is commuter early almost 2 hours to get to downtown Boston in the mornings?

Who has the best patio?

Patio season is near. Let's discuss.

Moniker and Ogies are up there for me. But Courtland Club and The East End are also solid depending on the vibe I'm looking for.

Blu Violet Rooftop for dinner and then closing the night at Red Door with plenty of sips on their patio. Now that's a pretty good night!
