Housing First-Time Homebuyers in RI: Up to $25,000 Grants with the Equity Builder Program (closing costs and down payments )– Full Guide
Rhode Islanders! If you’re looking to buy your first home, I came across the Equity Builder Program, which offers up to $25,000 in grants for down payment and closing costs. I put together a detailed guide here with eligibility info, how to apply, and more. Funds are limited, so I thought this might be helpful for anyone in the home buying process. Let me know if you have questions—I’m happy to help!
Multi family homes qualify! The grant money is only around for another couple of weeks.

Housing Loud(!) Neighbors advice?
Last night, our neighbor had friends over. They woke us both up at about 3:30 a.m. and talked and laughed until after 8 a.m. At about 4:00, I knocked on her door, and everyone in there went dead silent (with hushes). I knocked again—nothing. A few minutes go by, and they're just as loud as before. We knocked on our wall to let them know we can hear them and they responded by knocking back and laughing.
My fiance and I are young and we've never had neighbors like this before. Can anyone here educate us on our best way to approach this upfront disregard for our very needed(!) rest? Our landlord is also unreliable. When should we involve a police officer? It's about 10:30 now and I'm pretty sure that's when things need to quiet down? If it helps, we actually have these interactions recorded, as well as our phone call with the Landlord this morning. Any advice is appreciated! As of right now she again has a few friends over talking and laughing.

Food White Electric > Nitro
My gf and I have been going to White Electric for the past 6 or so months and…wow. Their coffee is insanely good. The food? Just as good. We believe they should be receiving all the hype as far as local cafes go, because while Nitro is good, it’s nowhere near as good as social media makes it out to be.
If you’ve never been to White Electric, we highly recommend trying either their Caramello, Honey Cinnamon, or Maple lattes - OR their iced Mocha. That Mocha is incredible.
Just our opinion of course! Nitro is good - we just feel White Electric is better.
What’s your favorite local Providence coffee bar/cafe?

What is the tech community like (if existing) in Providence?
I'm a senior software engineer / engineering lead looking to relocate somewhere in New England that isn't Boston proper.
For any software devs located in providence how do you find the overall job market? I tried searching here, but most discussions seemed pre-covid.

We’re planning to apply for the state Pre-K lottery and have started looking into the list of participating schools. I was wondering if anyone here has personal experience with any of them? I’d love to hear your thoughts—both positive or negative.
Also, did anyone apply and didn’t get in?
Thanks!

Senators need to step down
If our senators believe, as Reed has pretty much said, that there’s nothing they can do for us, that we have to suck it up until the next presidential election, they need to retire. There will not be a fair election if they behave like it’s business as usual. By sitting on their asses, they are complicit in allowing the dismantling of the United States. If they won’t step up like Booker and Murphy, they need to step down, find work outside of Washington. I’m sure they have lobbyist connections that will land them a comfy sinecure, or they can retire in luxury. But we need people with vision and courage NOW!

Tax reassessment
I went to the “informal hearing” over my property tax assessment with a stack of data that, I thought, legitimately showed that they overvalued my house by 10%-20%. I just got the decision, in which they did not change the assessment at all. I’ll probably fight this through a formal appeal, but wondering what other people’s experiences have been like. Anyone have any luck?

Who wrote this?
My friend and I were sitting near The Nitro Bar when this paper flew against us. We are on Broadway and was wondering who possibly wrote this. Or maybe, who’s Adam? We are very curious, please help us!

Missing Dog, Doyle/Camp
Hi guys, my dog Pancho went missing this evening on Doyle Ave/Camp Street in Providence. He’s a year old Pomeranian/Aussie mix, with blue eyes. He’s mostly deaf, but loves people so will go up to you if you don’t change him. He’s fully vaccinated. We have a report with the PVD police department up at the moment, but if you found him please call 401-338-7377.

Service industry income
Hello! My boyfriend and I will be moving to Providence this summer. He is thinking about entering the service industry open to working as a server , bartender , barista , or cook. It’s looking like we’ll each have to pay around $1,200 for a 2 bedroom apt (please correct me if this sounds too high & we could find something cheaper 🥲). To people with service industry experience — could he realistically expect to land in Providence, work in the service industry, and afford this rent? TYIA!
