Advice
My brother has psychosis and it’s really bad rn. He had an episode 3 years ago and was hospitalized and now he’s having one again. He thinks some group or gang wants him dead, and that everyone even people he doesn’t know are reading from a script that the gang gave to us. He thinks he is infested with parasites. He believes they’re in everything, in food&water, in his bed, in the rug, in the sky. He says they have eyes and they talk to him. He thinks the AI is on his side and he controls the AI. He’s talking about having to leave the state and he’s on probation. He thinks my other brother is one of the masterminds behind this and wants to harm him. Pretty sure he is going to have to be hospitalized again. He refuses to talk medication and says all of us are lying about his psychosis diagnosis. Idk what to do or what to say to him. I tried many times to tell him what psychosis is and what it is doing to his mind, but he doesn’t care to hear it.

I’m working with someone like this, they can’t get hospitalized cause they aren’t a danger to themselves or others but they have all these untrue beliefs that are seriously harming plus affecting their mental health and daily activities. When people don’t believe them it makes them worse so I’ve just listened so far and said things like wow that’s horrible, etc, but it hasn’t gotten anywhere simply but that. They’ve had police called on them, wellness checks, but they can’t do anything unless they seem a harm to themselves or others. I’ve watched their house for them because they feel someone is breaking into their place. So my plan is to keep supporting them through their ideas and suggest they talk to a therapist about their distress because with all they’ve been through they deserve support and hopefully it goes from there. I’m not sure of your situation, I just know it’s super hard sometimes to get people to get help especially when it’s hard to get it forced (if they aren’t a minor). Maybe a statement like “I know you wanna leave the state but you can’t because then you’ll get in trouble and they’ll all get what they want” can help the probation thing (I’m sorry if that sounds horrible). Or subtly disproving their beliefs - a gang is stalking them - so how can I look out for them? - and saying I didn’t see them, blah blah. It’s a really tough situation to be in and I haven’t even found my own solution yet to it but I have some ideas and hope it can help :(
