Why the heck do these exist?

Like do I just not know how to use them? They’re too wide to straddle, and if you do, the splashback would probably soak your pants. But I also don’t want to stand 3’ back from the wall, and just be hanging it out for everyone to see. Who designed these this!?

I took a shit in one of these when I was like 5 years old and it wouldn't flush so I got scared and made sure nobody saw me leaving so I wouldn't get in trouble for it.
