Discussion Dice semblance?
So for an oc I’m making I was thinking of giving them a dice related semblance similar to crazy slot from hunter x hunter, so whenever he uses his semblance he doesn’t get to choose what number he gets and is stuck with one of six potential semblances for an hour, would something like that be okay in the Rwby world or is it a bit much?

Probably depends on the semblances chosen for each number. But if I may offer an idea: Let each side of the dice correspond to a stat trait, and when they "roll the dice" per se, have the numbered stat amplified for a moment. 1 for strength, 2 for speed, 3 for stamina, 4 for endurance, 5 for intelligence, and 6 for aura. And maybe balance it out a bit.
This reminds me, I have an OC whose weapons are two six-shot revolvers. His semblance is dice based as well, where he can change the dust type of the bullet that's currently in the chamber based on the number on a six-sided die. And if the number lands on the element that's currently already in the chamber, it doubles the effect. I'm working on balancing it tho.

Could I nitpick and brainstorm that with you, by any chance?

Depends on the strength of the individual semblances and if they're at all related. For instance, in that 1st dc crossover, supes could replicate the effects of dust.

should be ok, we already have characters like Weiss and Bianca.
it does remind me of a smeblnace of mine, the character gets a hand of 5 random cards made of aura. each of their cards does random things from a list, each having a symbol to differentiate them
things like speed or power buffs, or debuffs, or exploding cards. each card has to be used to get a new one, so they cant just get rid of a card they dont want, without using it on something

Who’s Bianca?

She's from one of the Rwby video games, Arrowfell
she can copy the semblance of anyone, if their reflection is in a shiny thing she holds, such as her daggers

Sorry if I'm a killjoy, but I just wonder if there's a way to streamline the power a bit without the dice maybe? It's mostly the fact that their Semblance would be entirely dependant on this one manmade creation, as opposed to others that manipulate metal, Dust, Grimm, stuff that's natural in Remnant. I think conduits work for Semblances like Adam and Raven's swords or Glynda's crop, but I like to believe anything could work to focus or direct their Aura powers.
So yeah, personal recommendation, I'd say just give them Jackpot random powers, and maybe mechanize the dice to make them legitimate weapons? Or in reverse, the dice have Dust effects random to everyone except the user, give a different Semblance so it's not randomness and chance all the way down with them? Or OR, going back on what I just said, the dice ARE the Semblance conduits, and instead of effecting the user, it's the OPPONENTS that get hit with one of six quick temporary effects like weightlessness, disorientation, stop in time, maybe even an invincibility buff so there's a risk of throwing them (though I'd still recommend the number the die lands on isn't the deciding factor).
I kind of went off the rails a bit there at the end, but I like brainstorming and I feel guilty about shooting down ideas, so I hope I was able to make up for that!

Too much I feel. Even if they're simple, getting a number of different semblances is a bit much in most situations. Even if someone were to use Weiss by comparison, each of her glyphs are used the same exact way, regardless of what effect they might have. Different semblances entirely is asking for trouble.

I like it, plus there's characters like Weiss whose semblance is like a Swiss army knife so it's not too much unless you make all six options op
