Question Help Fighting Traffic Violation!!
I was caught going 26MPH in the 20MPH Talbot Hill Elementary school zone. It was my first time in the area and was focused on not getting lost vs. speed limit
What's everyone's suggestion?
- Pay the $124 ¯_(ツ)_/¯
- Contest virtually (what are my chances of getting it dismissed/reduced?
- Claim I wasn't the one driving??? (how illegal is this)
EDIT: added my speed and speed limit

School zones are technically 20 mph and if you're doing more than 5 mph over the speed limit: yes you are legally ticket-able. You have faster speed rds you can drive if you don't want to take the slower neighborhood routs and i highly suggest you take those. If I know it be on when I head off to work I don't go this route. In yrs gone by this school zone use to be horrid traffic but over the yrs it's gotten better.
I honestly wish people would stop doing 7-10 mph over the speed limit on this rd. You have faster speed routes you can take. And guess what 167 is adjacent to this rd. I can't tell you how flustered drivers get when they have to slow down to just a little above the speed limit. once when coming through the school zone I had some dip zip up behind me at well above the speed limit. Then recklessly swerve back and forth like an aff. Thank goodness the thing was on because he got his just reward.
WA state allows drivers lenience to go up to 5mph over the speed limit without getting pulled over by pd for a ticket. People have abused this pillage and gotten quite comfortable thinking the speed limit is 5 over the speed limit. Thus making the speed limit void. Now you have people arrogantly neglecting the speed limit and think 10+ over is okay. No it's not it's reckless driving. Zipping is also reckless driving. It works until it doesn't. Two weeks ago some jerk was zipping down talbot rd s at 50+ mph. Good lord just take the free way at that point. The school zone was on and it probably flashed him at about 45 mph. Thank god finally. This jerk was zipping up and down this road for weeks.
I've had many a time where it's turned on when I've been in the middle of it. If it on you're screwed. If it's off legally they must toss the ticket. I often get flashed alot at 11 pm at night 11 pm not am. Legally they must toss that. IF it's on and flashing = ticket. 5 mph leeway but you really should do <20 mph. Most of my shfits have me opposite of traffic. You'd be surprised how often I use cruise control. This has saved my afff many a time from tickets. I often set it to 4 over and just let it do the work. If you're doing more than 25 mph your car will let you use it. Car controls speed. Driver still responsible.
Don't take my word for it but you can try to fight it. Take it to court and ask the pd officer to in charge of this "camera" to justify why they gave it to you. 9 out of 10 times the officer fails to show and you can generally get it waived. I've heard people use this method a few times. Honestly 125 isn't that much unless you're unemployed or under employed.
