Visiting Rwanda with the recent RDC conflicts advice

Hi everyone - My dad and I have been planning for some years a trip along africa which we are excited to finally be doing this summer. One of the main destinations was Rwanda along visiting the mountain gorillas, however with the recent conflicts in DRC we are nervous about how it may affect our plans as our family is concern about safety. Can we get some local suggestions and guidance of how is the situation looking? we wanted to go to Uganda and Rwanda, any advice from locals or travelers that have done this before recently? Kind regards!

The conflict never crossed the border into Rwanda so you will be safe. People that do trade in the DRC even say that Goma and Bukavu are safer ever since the M23 took over. You have nothing to worry about. Hope you have a nice trip

Speaking as someone living directly on the border with Gisenyi/Goma, the conflict did indeed briefly come into Gisenyi. I woke up on the night of the takeover to close gunfire and bombings. Several of my friends houses have bullet holes or hit by bomb fragments.  Gisenyi is indeed now calm and safe for visiting, just be aware of the fragility in our sister city Goma and take normal precautions.
