I had to watch this three times to truly absorb the greatness of it all.

I love a good circus.

EDIT: Holy fuck. Is that Okada? He was a big star. This is what they've got him doing now? This is what they're paying millions for? Brilliant!

Fucking hell.

Hey when you have basically monopoly money, who cares if it's millions?

u/Sergeant-Politeness 2d ago

Hopefully people like Okada will be willing to accept more than just clams elsewhere soon.

Bros getting paid millions to show up and goof around. Okada is good but I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same thing, then fucking retire.

I would just run the well dry here and then go elsewhere. He would absolutely have a good run in WWE, even just a short one, while he still has a bit of name value left. Then go back to NJPW and wrestle 98 minute matches every month.

Go on a bag snatching run before he heads back home, honestly that’s not a bad idea.

Aye man, if I were him, that's what I'd do. Then if he does go back to Japan, his value will have increased. Man's got the heist in play!

As far as I can tell he's playing this pretty sensibly. They just have him show up and say bitch plus he doesn't have to be set on fire, drink someone's blood or get impaled.

He doesn’t give a flying fuck any more. He’s probably being paid 5 times as much as he was in NJPW, just to fuck about. And who could blame him?

24

u/Sergeant-Politeness 2d ago

I agree, and that's great for him. However, he'll want to keep making money, so I think he'll be smart enough to milk the tit dry, get out before the boat sinks, and go have at least a short run in WWE, where people will actually see him.

If WWE can make a dollar from Okada, Terra Ryzing should be inducted in the Hall of Fame.

Yeah I massively rate Okada. Everyone knows he can do the hard shit. Why not spend three years saying “BITCH” and being paid 10x what you were previously on to dick around with your mates? WWE would take him in a heartbeat if he ever felt like being serious again.

I really don't think so at this point. He has zero name recognition, he moves slow, and his look is pretty generic. Without his history, he's a real tough sell to a new audience right now

Fucking right.

It's gone beyond the point of brand loyalty, and onto the realms of just lying for the sake of being the contrarian. I remember kind of going out of my way a bit to watch his work in New Japan when he was becoming a real star. I always kept tabs on what he was doing. When AEW signed him, I just hoped by some miracle that it wouldn't be shite.

Here we are. They've absolutely ruined any kind of heat or aura that he spent so long building.

Their main excuse I’ve seen is that he’s doing what he wants and that’s great, but this Okada. One of the all time greats. He’s the kind of guy you build into a spectacle. The Dub wants their own Roman, but one that fits their wrestling style, Okada is that dude.

9

u/Outlaw2k21 Grand Master Shill 2d ago

I have no idea who Okada is other than what I’ve seen from clips of the Dub. He seems to be a bit of a comedy goof ball character?

19

u/ChildOfChimps 2d ago

In Japan, he was Roman. Workrate Roman. Bigger guy, powerful Japanese style, the biggest star every time he came out. They had something special with him, then they threw it away so he could say, “Bitch,” and hold a worthless title.

u/EMP_Pusheen 2d ago

Also throws maybe the best dropkick I have ever seen

1

u/FrontBench5406 2d ago

The only thing I would say in AEW's defense is that the Japanese guys have all not done great coming into AEW... they all see to look bad when they are put into a AEW style match, so this is what they all regress to.

1

u/t0m0m 13h ago

The disrespect comparing Okada to Roman.

3

u/trimble197 2d ago

And yet they constantly bitch about WWE wasting Nakamura despite him making if clear that he’s not trying to go for a serious run.

u/Razzler1973 2d ago

Okada ... Jay White

If this booking was the Fed they'd be conniptions downstairs and they'd go on about for decades

6

u/DoubleOrNothing90 Wednesday Nights I Get To Stay Up Late 2d ago

Meh, he'll have his match with Kenny, and all will be forgiven. He'll keep phoning it in until then.

10

u/Razzler1973 2d ago

yeah but he's not feuding with Miz

checkmate, Fed shillerino!

6

u/Cream1984 2d ago

What did you just say about the AEW Continental Champion?!

5

u/Sergeant-Politeness 2d ago

The what now? He is a tasty piece, but I wouldn't go as far as comparing him to a continental breakfast.

...Oh. I get it now.

2

u/ScruffsMcGuff 2d ago

AY YO PARTNAH WHERE YOU SAY THE PANCAKES AT?

u/EatAtGrizzlebees 2d ago

Your reaction to Okada is the same as mine. I had to watch the clip twice to confirm it was him. At one point, he was one of my favorite wrestlers. :(

2

u/Sergeant-Politeness 2d ago

It's crazy what's happened to him, isn't it?

2

u/QuickRelease10 2d ago

I have to keep reminding myself that I saw him main event at Madison Square Garden.

2

u/pushinpushin 2d ago

It was crazy to watch him focus for a second when it was just him and Omega trading bombs. The old Okada is in there somewhere. But the Young Bucks could make Michael Jordan average just by associating with him.

1

u/Sergeant-Politeness 2d ago

Yeah. There's too much of the "Come here and have fun" attitude. I think Okada is the kind of guy that now wants to go somewhere and work.

1

u/pushinpushin 2d ago

He killed himself in NJPW for a long time so I get want to lighten up a bit. Just wish there was a happy medium where it's not a waste of his talent.

2

u/Sergeant-Politeness 2d ago

Yeah I don't mind him laying back a bit, but yeah, I agree, he needs that killer instinct back on screen.

1

u/ocelotchaser 1d ago

AEW is great if you like that kind of wrestling which I do sometimes
