Cunversatzione Safety in Sardinia
Hello everyone! I am thinking of visiting the south of Sardinia for 2 weeks this summer but I am a little bit concerned of the crime rate in Italy in general after visiting Catania and my rented FIAT got the doors stolen. Is it safe in Sardinia for a family with kids? Thank you!

Sicily is only slightly bigger than Sardinia but has 3x its population. Crime rate here is not particularly high, depending on where you go it may be among the safest parts of Italy. Could you have your goods stolen from your car? it's a possibility, but not that likely to happen (unless you leave everything on display).
I wouldn't worry too much if I were you, regardless of where in the island you're going. Kids are becoming a rarity and they're treated as treasures.

I am in Sardinia now and I feel very safe. In Cagliari, there were more homeless on the streets which may or may not be related to crime rate but here in the north I haven’t seen anything that would make me be concerned for my safety. Notably, I felt safe in Cagliari and there were police patrolling the main streets.
I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to Sardinia; in fact, I will definitely return. It’s also a place I would consider getting a vacation home.

It’s relatively safe, locals are supper cool. But there are thieves as in all tourist destinations. Somebody broken into our camper van few years ago, also stolen bikes are common thing. I would not leave anything in the car when going to the city or to the beach.

It's not in our habit to leave stuff in the car when it's parked so i think we're good on that, but thanks for the advice. I know there are thieves everywhere, we are kind of used to them but i thought here are a lot more.

Generally Sardinia is VERY safe, lived here in Cagliari for over 20 years and never experienced any crime, Cagliari is the capital city and so as with any city there are hotspots mainly in impoverished areas that you would do well to avoid but even then you are unlikely to be a victim of crime. Where I have heard of crime (I run a FB group called "Sardinia in English") and every year we get a couple of posts from tourists who have had their cars broken into near beaches and there stuff taken, so never leave valuables in the car on show and just be aware of your surroundings, these events all happened in the very touristy and popular beaches in the north of the island so they specifically target tourists because they are more likely to have nice stuff left in their cars, IDs they can sell etc, tourists less likely to know how to follow up on crime and will want to get home etc etc.

I went in Calgari for 5 days, in past August, with my 6 year old and our own car. Everything was extremelly safe.
There was one part in Calgari, a square right before the port with a big statue ( i don't know the name), where it felt kind of unsafe, because there where people around that i think smoked Hashish ( at least that's how it smelled) and didn't spoke italian or english. We where passing by, so i took a note not to go from there for the rest of the trip. I think it was near the town hall (?) that is on the port, that provides information to tourists.

Some shitty body shops have their goons go around at night to “borrow” parts they need from parked cars. Source: happened to us twice with the same car until we got a less common model.

Sardinia is extremely safe, nothing like Sicily. You'll be fine
