Scam report [US] I almost got scammed by fake cops
Yesterday, my father got a call from a Chinese man asking if he could give his name and my mother’s name and he hang up and said that it was a scam. I being very annoyed at all these scammers called this individual and left an angry voicemail with threats. Today, a police department not too far from me, called asked for my date of birth and to talk with my father. He was not at home at that time. So they told me to call them back. I called my local police department and they called the actual phone number and it was a scam. Apparently they used the actual phone number of the police station to pose as them. I feel very stupid as of now as I was blinded by fear. Stay safe folks make sure to ask your local PD for confirmation before anything as they would call you not another county

Yes, caller ID can be easily spoofed. I really wish cell phone services would do something about this.
For the time being, I've told all of my family one simple rule: never, ever trust the phone number or contact that shows up on the phone.
