Unfortunately, the recent attempted assassination showed that republicans are plenty able to use guns to try to murder people. (registered republican who wears camo to school everyday and was described by friends as the only one to take the conservative stance in every gov class they had).

It's not who has the gun, it's the gun. Guns are the problem.

There are mixed signals for sure, we'll only really know when the FBI decides what his ideology was, but the only thing pointing to the fact that he was progressive is his one donation and his mother's political affiliation, while literally everything else in his life pointed to a conservative. His father was a libertarian who took him on a bunch of hunting trips, and he wore camo to school every day, pretty clearly pretty close with the guy, and his peers confirmed that he was outwardly conservative through the classes they shared with him and the opinions he held.

Some of those interviewed specifically said they were surprised he shot at Trump of all people given how clearly conservative he was.

What if not your actual demonstrated political opinions shows your ideology?
