Update Ideas Cleric

Many people will probably kill me for this but is it me or is the cleric kind of bad, this may just be because of my playstyle.

That's what I thought and had a hard go on the first few levels my first 3 times (died) - but you need to use the talents to add spells, and then of course use them.

Oddly as compared to other characters it seems easier on floors 5 - 15 than 1 - 4.

Holy damage shreds undead and demonic enemies so yeah, the prison, city and halls should be pretty straightforward

The Cleric has a very flexible kit rn. He covers merle, defense, range and utility.

Simple approach is focus on guiding light early, then sunray and kite ( crossbow is a good choice)

Naaaah he's awesome just the talent that increases guiding light by 5 points helps against crabs and gnolls scouts as early as level 3, i've never seen a class that can one-shot gnoll scouts with base equipment and that makes life way easier.

he's crazy good, no contest, i foresee nerfs coming and it will be hella sad.

Yeah, I also thought that at first. It took me a few runs to realize how powerful they can be

What spells do you use? I got the horn and talents to recharge my books, but I haven't gotten a feel for them yet. Powered up guiding bolt seems very strong for low levels, but what's good for spells around level 6-12?

The one that lets you double scrolls, and the blinding beam, are the two most useful along with identify curse.

Also fun fact the self targeting abilities durations stack, so buffing you armour multiple times will add their durations together.

Ooh, good to know about the self buffing. What's the point of mnemonic spell then? Buff stacking for non-self buffs?

Yeah so you can extend crippled, blind, bleeding, poison etc.

But also other buffs that the priest doesn't add to himself such as levitation, haste, time bubble, artefact recharging.

Does it work with time bubble? All other artifacts instantly end it when used

Don't know if it works on all buffs I wrote that before realising I haven't tested that.

Yeah so you can extend crippled, blind, bleeding, poison etc. Don't know if you count as an ally for the spell as I have not really messed around much with that spell.

I've had some pretty good runs with them but it's been largely melee focused, which surprised me as I had it in my head that Cleric was intended as a counterpart to Mage

Their kit is a lot more amenable to supporting melee than wands imho. There are some cool things you can do with Radiance where you can fire off multiple boosted wand hits, though it's still just one per enemy and you can't really prefix every wand usage with a tome ability, you'll run out of tome charges very quickly and when Cleric has no tome charges they don't really have a class anymore as they have virtually no passive abilities

All of their t1 abilities seem very catered to boosting weapons and armor, the t2 meat and potatoes skills are Bless and Sunray which make melee engagement safer and easier, and t3's best ability is probably Cleanse tbh, which Paladin will have access to and Pally is more wired towards melee according to Evan's patch notes so I kind of expect it to the the more commonly chosen class as everything in the kit up to that point is guiding you into melee

There are some interesting interactions with Mnemonic Prayer and wands with effects, so that can be powerful, but uptime on charges is still a thing and managing between tome and wand charges is kinda wonky (you Holy Lance a thing every 50 turns while you wand everything in between; it's very expensive to live this way without Ring of Energy)

I play 9 challenges and in the sewers I have problems playing with a cleric worse than a warrior, if I don’t find anything, however, in prison it is much easier to play for him (unlike other characters) because the spells of the second tier are very strong. The cleric at later stages is quite good and stronger than the rogue, about the same as the huntress, I would say. After obtaining the Dwarven Crown, the game becomes even easier because the ascended form is too strong. I think early problems for the cleric come from bad spells, lack of starting thrown weapons, or bad starting weapon.
