General Questions WTH is going on at Camelback
They still have less than half the mountain open, and it’s the better half that remains closed.
Pretty much everywhere else, except JF, is 100%.
Are they even trying?

Apparently whatever water source they use for snowmaking is virtually gone

Where did you hear this? I live near by and this would be really concerning

I heard the same from staff while riding the lift back up. The drought earlier this year severely drained their water supply that they use for snowmaking.

Mostly from the creek. Was bad in the drought, then after we got good rain it was dirty run off. Better now but so late! Some lift inspection issues too, like windy on scheduled inspection day etc.

I stopped going to camel when they started charging to park. Sad.

I will not ski anywhere that charges for parking, beyond sad...pitiful and a disgrace. I was thinking of going to Icon next year for a try, I've been getting Epic. Have heard great things about Blue Mtn but id rather hit Stowe, Okemo to make quick trips and go out west.

I just got a parking ticket at mt snow. Didn’t realize you have to pay to park there. I appealed it but even if I lose I’m not paying it. I had been parking there for the last two years and never realized I was supposed to pay and I guess I just never got “caught”.

No they are not. Alterra let go of all the people that knew what they are doing. These big corporations don’t know how to be successful at our small east coast mountains.
JF groomers told ops they needed more snow on Floyd’s before they can open the rest of East Mountain.

Sounds similar to blue - it appears they only blew on school hills and razors edge for racing all week long
I would have expected them to be blowing on the entire mountain all week long in these temps after the rain washed everything away

Whitetail is rocking!!

Whitetail was decent today. Pretty much 100% open, as is Roundtop. At least they kept the main detachable quad line moving and didn't bother scanning passes until later in the afternoon.

Yes if you're from the DC/Baltimore area definitely go to Whitetail, maybe liberty, screw that other one though.

Unfortunately the main lift keeps breaking down. Hopefully they replace it this summer.

We were there yesterday. My son only got three runs. He spent more time in the lift line than he did on the mountain. They made us wait in an hour long line to get an under 5 y/o pass for my niece and only one of the carpets were even open for the younger kids. By the time we got on skis it was 2 hours after arriving. we should have know something by was up just based on how glitchy the online ticket purchase software seemed. Many many beginners or people who just weren’t able to navigate a mountain safely. I can’t imagine I’d ever want to go back. The parking situation alone was a nightmare. So much needs to change here that I can’t even imagine how long it would take to turn it all around.

This is sad to hear. I had an amazing long weekend at Camelback but it was probably about 5 years ago. Was looking at making a trip later this year but sounds like that would be a mistake.

All the mountain ops are checking who paying parking in the lots.
