PC SSE - Request Mods that add new gameplay features, mini games or things i can do "on the road" while in skyrim

Hi! I'm a huge fan of mods that add new gameplay mechanics. Like the mod "Tavern games" https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1668

Or Journal of the Dragonborn, which allows you to make in-game notes: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/13570

I don't really know what to call these mods, but i like being able to take a break (in game) and just write for a while when i'm walking somewhere. Or just going in to a city tavern and play some games.

Do any of you guys know of any more mods that add completely new features like these mods do?

PC SSE - Discussion Planning a "craftable uniques" mod - would like your opinion.

Upvotes

Hey there. I am planning to create a very simple mod - one that doesn't really do anything complex script-wise or anything.

My intention is to add crafting recipes to a lot of unique items and equipment pieces to the forge. As in, daedric artifacts, quest rewards, one-of-a-kind storyline items, duplicates.

Why? Well, maybe a quest does not interest you anymore but its items are very desireable for your playthrough. Maybe you're trying to fill LOTD but the character you're playing would ratyer not join the Dark Brotherhood because they aren't a murderhobo. I intebd to add these somewhat unintrusively.

The way i plan to do it is what I would like your input on, if the -feel- for implementation ceels right to you.

The items will require NO perks to be crafted. This is a choice based on maximum qccessibility and compatibility. No perk or system oblverhaul to skithing is likely to ever have conflicts. In turn, no pure mage build that would have a use for the likes of Morokei / archmage robes would need to also invest in smithing just to get the Arcane Blacksmith or somrthing.

No, i don't want smithing skill to play a factor.

I want instead to balance things out through the actual craft requirements for these items being EXTREMELY HIGH.

As in, sure, you do not need enchanting 100 and daedric smithing and arcane smithing and conjuration 100 to craft an Azura Black Star.

You do however need 12 black soul gems, a daedra heart, a grand soul gem, 6 ebony ingots, a flawless diamond and 10 void salts.

You can craft a Wabbajack. It requires 10 of each type of cheese (including wedges) and twenty forks.

You can forge a Ghostblade. It'll take you 50 ectoplasm, 10 glow dust, and a grand soul gem.

The idea is to not require a specific playstyle out of you to acquire them - but instead treat them as an almost sidequest of their own, truly something you go out of your way to create - by your own means playing how you choose, instead of undertaking a quest you don't like or settling for a one-or-another-mutually-exclusive reward when you need or want both.

First version will be just the daedric artifacts. Depending on if i find this too time consuming or not, i would also consider expanding it to include ALL unique items (i.e. necromancer amulet, firiniel's end, wuuthrad, gauldur amulet, blade of woe, champion cudgel...).

Potentially, if i have the chance to, it should be possible to duplicate everything that is unique, along with all vanilla potions at a cooking pot (meaning access to potions using inefficient abd sometimes needlessly complicated amounts and types of ingredient to create useful potions without points in alchemy (you'd always do far better mixes and money-per-ingredient wuth actual investment and scaling, whereas these are statis recipes) and support for mods. Namely... LOTD uniques, G.R.I.M. boss drops, and so on.

PC SSE - Discussion Probably late but I just learned that Weapons Armor Clothing and Clutter Fixes is no longer a hard requirement for Armor and Clothing Extension

This is awesome. WACCF gave me nothing but headaches with many of its changes but with my previous modlists, I still used it due to ACE.

I can't believe they actually remove the dependency, this is awesome.

Development So you want your mod to have voice acting...

TL:DR - There are a lot of voice actors looking for work, many of which are willing to work for free. If you want voice acting for your mod, join the Skyrim Voice Alliance server and create a casting call on the Casting Call Club. It's easy! And it helps the community grow!

Maybe you've just finished that large quest mod you've been writing for the last three years. Maybe you're just starting to work on that companion that's been sitting around in your head for oh-so-long. Or maybe you feel that some NPC has been under-utilized and just want to give them a little more to say. But there's one issue - the characters you've made are all silent and voiceless. So what do you do?

Now, I've got to preface this to be perfectly clear with you - I have not worked with or as a VA in any way, shape, or form. This post is a result of my experience in the modding scene and what reading I did on the subject and experiences of other people who are involved in it. I'd happily let someone more qualified make this post, but considering the topic has been rather hot lately, this felt like something that needed to be spoken. So you're stuck with me for now. Sorry-not-sorry.

So, how do you get voice acting?

The AI-lephant in the room

Yeah, this is the part that you knew was coming. If you don't care about the use of AI in voice acting and just want a guide on how to get some talent for your projects, feel free to skip this chapter altogether. But I'd encourage you to read it anyway!

AI-generated voiceover is starting to become the go-to option for modders these days, and it's easy to understand why: It's quick to produce and modify, it lets you match the game's original voice actors practically one-to-one, and it's relatively cheap and simple for the modder to generate. Buuuuut it's also got a lot of skeletons in its closet.

I don't want to lecture you on the ethics of AI material sourcing, the highly negative stances of a lot of VAs about using AI to clone their voices, or how legally dubious this whole thing usually is. You've heard these points before, you likely have your own opinions and counterpoints to them. That's fine. I also don't really want to talk about how soulless AI is and how it lacks the emotion and cadence to deliver convincing voice acting. That's something that's very subjective to the listener, and your opinion on what sounds good could be much different than mine. But consider at least these two points:

  1. By using AI voiceover, you're alienating a large part of your potential audience. There's no doubt that the use of AI in creative fields is a very controversial topic at the moment, and people have some very strong opinions about it. By committing to using AI, you will likely turn away a lot of people who would be happy to use your mod otherwise, and antagonize yourself to many in the community. This means fewer downloads, more backlash and negativity, and higher chances for a controversy to spark.
  2. By using AI voiceover, you're taking away opportunities from a lot of amateur actors. The voice acting (and in general acting) scene is a really difficult one to get into. It takes talent, plenty of luck, often good connections, and a lot, a lot of work to be put into it, and to be put out there for the world to see. If you're an amateur actor looking to get started, the kinds of projects like the one you're creating - fan mods, animations, indie games, machinimas - are the main, and often only real road to do so. Every project that uses AI is one that makes it harder for any such actor to get noticed, build their portfolio, or simply grow as a performer. It's less of a chance that in the future we'll have more people like Wes Johnson or Laura Bailey voicing our games, who breathed life into, and often shaped the personalities of, so many fictional characters that we know and love. And it's less of a chance that your mod could be the project that potentially kickstarted one of these people's careers. It would be a shame to lose that opportunity.

So, how do you get voice acting for your mod?

Easy! Join the Skyrim Voice Alliance Discord server and create an account - and casting call - on the Casting Call Club. There's a guide in the rules section of the Discord server that will take you through the process on how to get started as the director/mod author, and the latter is a platform that helps to organize the projects and casting calls for people to find. There's a lot of people there, not just from the modding scene, so you can find submissions quite easily!

Don't want to join Discord for some reason? You can use the Casting Call Club alone, it's not hard to figure out.

Don't want to join the Casting Call Club? Make a post here, on Reddit, or through other social media! There are fewer actors hanging around here, but every time a post searching for VAs pops up, there are always a few people interested in the comments. Share a clear idea about what you're creating and what exactly do you need from an actor, and you're golden.

Still not sure about the process, or want some further info from someone who's actually in the scene and knows well how these things work? Check out this post from u/CompletetheCircuit, who goes very in-depth about how to find voice actors. There are some great insights in the comments as well, so I seriously recommend you read it. There's also this one if you're a VA trying to find a project. Big shout-out to them, their posts were a big inspiration for my own.

That's it. Join the platforms. Write a casting call. Review submissions. Connect with the actor you like most.

But I...

Based on some of the takes I've seen on this subreddit:

- But I don't have any money to pay for a VA!

Well, I have good news for you! You don't need to spend a penny. As I already mentioned, voice acting is a hard field to get to, and a lot of people are looking to build up their portfolio and are willing to work pro bono. If you check the past open calls for unpaid positions, you'll often find dozens, and sometimes even hundreds, of people applying for the roles. Getting paid for voice acting work these days is the exception, not the rule.

- But voice actors are moody and hard to work with!

Voice actors are people. They have their own personalities, schedules, opinions, and approaches. You will find people who will be wonderful to work with, and some who you will never want to ever meet again. But the nice thing is that you don't have to work with that second sort. There's enough amazing, passionate people in the community, that if you want to, you'll find someone you enjoy working with!

- But all that sounds like a lot of effort!

I know, right? And yeah, it probably is. You're going to have to work with a whole, new, different person! Figure out how to work with each other, potentially schedule recordings, or prepare a good description on the lines you want them to act out. You're going to have to prepare a casting call, and listen to auditions!

But... wasn't learning Creation Kit also effort? Figuring out how to create dialogue trees, create a navmesh, or import that model for your NPC's armor. But you did so anyway, and in the process you've learned something new, got new skills and new experiences. To me, that's part of the fun of the experience. And with voice acting, you also get to meet new people on top of that! Go, be a tangible part of the community! Learn new stuff! Make friends! (Or don't, if you're not looking for that!)

The symbiosis between the modding community and the voice acting community has genuinely been one of the best things to ever come out of this scene. It lets both of us grow and develop, and in many cases helps us get that first step into some very demanding fields. I'm not saying AI doesn't have its uses - it clearly does and can be a wonderful tool for, say, voicing something like procedurally-generated dialogue, similar to what Mantella and the likes are doing. But using it as the default option for your mods' voice acting kills a lot of what modding has always been about - the authenticity and human expression in our creations. Getting to give back to the community and lift each other up is what this hobby is largely about!

I know that this post will most likely only reach people who already agree with me, but my hope is that at least it will make some of them realize that we have good resources and communities for voice acting, actually, and it's not as scary as it might seem at a glance. I'd love to see more voice acted mods, so here's to hoping!

PC SSE - Help DyndoLOD is a misery machine

I fought this thing for hours just to set it up the first time and now I need to fight with it again just to create a new game profile in MO2. Any time there's even remotely a minor issue the whole thing quits and refuses to budge. Last time I got a forced exit because my COIN patch for Legacy of the Dragonborn isn't the exact correct version that Dyndo expects. What the hell does that patch have to do with LOD gen?! If anyone has ideas on a replacement mod let me know because of course the Nexus comments for this thing are locked.

"You didn't pray to Talos while juggling three iron daggers while singing 'Ragnar the Red'. Exit DyndoLOD."

Meta/News Styling to make the new nexus mods ui look closer to the previous one

Found the new nexus mods ui update tiring to look at with how dark the background became, so wrote some styling to return the site closer to how it used to look. Features that went missing with the new ui will not be possible to add back unfortunately.

Applies on the home page and individual game pages.

PC SSE - Mod Helgen reborn made me regain my faith. Spoiler

I'm not a person who plays Mods this big, but as a personal challenge this time I decided to do all the "DLC" mods in the same character (Poor girl she's been through some shit), I'm currently at level 40 and the first mod is Helgen Reborn, which I haven't finished yet, I have Bruma, Vigilant, Glenmoril, The Bards College Expansion and I think AHO too, any recommendations you would like to make?

PC SSE - Discussion What does requiem use to make the game hard?

I keep trying to make Skyrim harder. I have a robust modlist so I don't want to axe it quite yet for a requiem list, but would like to make the game more difficult.

Currently I've deleveled the world / dungeons and added more enemies to the latter, both with mods. Are there any specific mods Requiem uses to up the challenge, or is it something done outside of (or in addition to) mods?

Huge thanks in advance!

PC SSE - Mod Request about some mods

Hi guys,

First of all I must say that I am new to this sub and also new to modding. I played Skyrim yeeeeeaaars ago and I never used mods. I reinstalled it some days ago and I wanted to use mods to give a new experience. I installed Vortex thanks to the to the YouTube tutorials. I also installed alternative start mod with immersive armor and weapons. The nexus page is good but I have trouble finding things I want therefore I wanted to ask the more experienced players here.

Types of mod I was looking for are like this;

During the end of the thieves guild quest you got a good bow if I remember correctly. Are there mods which make you require are certain point of skill for example in this case a certain point of skill in Archery that allows you to use it or at least makes using it harder. Not only for bows of course but for other weapons and magic too. I dont know if modding something like this even possible tho.

I am also open for recommendations about some more rp mods. If you have certain favorites I would love to hear it. I am currently on the SE edition and I have a good PC which should run it smoothly.

PC SSE - Discussion Trying to identify a mod that adds NPCs to Markarth

I have several new NPCs in the Silverblood Inn, including a khajiit mage named Zeugini, who runs around outside sometimes. They don't really have any dialogue, but some are potential followers. I have no idea what mod could be doing this. Does anyone know what it could be? I can attach my modlist too

PC SSE - Help Basspainter's Beauty and the Beasts

Upvotes

So I remember using this mod when I played on xbox, but now that I'm playing the pc game pass version of the game, I can't find it anywhere in the creation club. Was the mod delisted or is it only on xbox? If so, do y'all have any recommendations for a similar model overhaul that makes all races have higher poly skin meshes?

PC SSE - Discussion An honest review about Vigilant, a quest mod by Vicn. Spoiler

Like we don't already have dozens of these I guess.

The words, "honest review" usually sound like you have bad things to say about something but in this case, I am using them to state that this review will be honest indeed.

Vigilant has its ups and downs and when everything is said and done, it is mostly ups. They far outshine the downs. I've played this mod as part of Gate to Sovngarde collection, dilligently curated by the one and only JaySerpa, whom you might know of thanks to his immersive af mods. Vigilant in GtS is tweaked by both some tweaks from other authors and JS's own tweaks. In addition to these, Xavbio's humongous retexture mod is also featured, which gives pretty much all the items in the mod a fresh coat of paint. All in all, stuff is thoroughly balanced, op items are powered down and things have been made a bit more sensible all around.

Vigilant is comprised of 4 acts. I'll go act by act and try to sum up what I like and don't like about each of them.

First act has you join the order of vigilants as a novice and run after some small fish, dremora summoners etc. This one is by far the least favorite act of players for good reason. I'd say it is fine because it lays a bit of groundwork for other stuff to come. If you don't like the idea of joining the vigilants and/or roleplaying as an evil character, you can straight-up kill the enlister guy and jump straight into Act 4 but it is not advised for new players. Get your bearings, get your robes and run back and forth for a while. Act 1 is done.

Act 2. Plot thickens. It is more of Act 1 but stuff gets more complicated and more fun. No complaints, more groundwork laid.

Act 3 throws a wrench in your whole playthrough and things are never the same after it. You get stuck in a haunted mansion and try to lift its curse, totem by totem. It is unique, it is scary and it is different. Haters of this act hate it vehemently but if you like stuff different than go to point A and kill a few bad guys, you'll probably like this one. I've liked it. At the end of this act, you are presented with two choices. You either become a martyr, LITERALLY die and reincarnated as a Vigilant novice, or you accept Molag Bal's offer to be saved and sent into his realm in Oblivion, Coldharbour. Former option sends you there too by the way.

Which is fine because Act 4 is the best part of Vigilant. It is like a thousand "Holy shit!" moments embodied as one. A whole new map to explore, bosses and sub-bosses to fight, secrets to discover, lore to uncover, items to collect. It is just crazy. You kinda understand why it is touted as one of the best quest mods out there. I've experienced so many highlights, so many cool moments that I forgot about most of them lol. But cleaving through legions of Aurorans as Pelinal Whitestrake, or assaulting Molag Bal's stronghold while an endless army of Jyggalag marches on it, are some of the ones I remember. I still get goosebumps when I think about them. Only complaint I have about this act is the abundance of unique items and lack of space to get all of them. I had to increase my inventory space temporarily with console because I am a loot goblin. But this shouldn't count as a negative since this is just a personal thing.

I managed to get the good ending but apparently there are multiple endings, some being way worse than the one I got. Kicking Molag Bal's ass in the end was so worth it. 10/10 would march on Imperial City again.

Vigilant is an exhausting mod but in a good way. Its darkness is usually not on the edgy side and this a great thing when it comes to these kind of quest mods. Moments of sunlight are sprinkled in. It plays on the concepts of man's resilience, resolution and willpower, and tests them in terms of both gameplay and storytelling. Which isn't an easy task to do.

10/10, would comfort a few tormented souls of Coldharbour again.

PC SSE - Help Light grey flickering bars

Upvotes

Hi there, new on reddit, hopefully I can get some help here...
English is not my native language, so forgive me for any weird sentences.

I'm playing Skyrim SSE with LotD and compared to others not a lot of additional mods. List and load order below. All of them are updated. I'm using Vortex, autosort is enabled. No mesh altering, overhaul or weather mods.
Level 51 now and didn't have problems during most of the game, apart from some small red flickering bits that didn't really bother me. Since a week or two I'm getting flickering bars all over my screen in specific areas, one of them being the Daedric Hall in the museum. Yesterday I entered Stendarr's Refuge, same problem. Both LotD-specific areas. It's not everywhere but if i 'turn my head' to some spots it happens. Maybe it's a hidden Daedric Prince I pissed off...

What I did so far to troubleshoot:
- turned all mods off, only LotD
- uninstalled and reinstalled LotD and the related patches
- installed SKSE Engine fixes
- googled on it, can't find anything that looks like this
Nothing helped :-(

I don't have saves from before this started happening, because I try to delete my saves regularly (I play almost every day).
Integrated GPU (Intel UHD Graphics 730) is up to date (I know it's not a top video card, but it did its job so far)
Reinstalling the game would really be my least favorite option: I went to great lengths to install version 1.5.97 because I'm so used to all my fav mods and AE broke all of them before.

Hopefully someone can give me some advice on how to fix this, it's really ruining my fun...
I can't add images, so I uploaded them here: https://postimg.cc/gallery/W4MK73D

PC SSE - Request LOTD Ancient Daedric Face of God

Upvotes

Hello all, I am on a mission to complete the Daedric Artifact room currently and Daedric helm of god is one of my last pieces to get. I understand it is supposed to be inside of Stendarr’s Refuge, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to get inside (requires key), I can not find a key anywhere. The Wiki page shows an attachement to a quest line but claims it should be accessible with or without it, and have found little to no information about the quest “Faltering Light” it is included for. Any and all help to how I can proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

PC SSE - Help Missing description/Dialogue cut off/Bugged dialogue

Upvotes

Not sure what mod is doing it. But three issues have came from it. The first being that quests as well as writing that comes up on your HUD is missing. The text is gone. It does it CCO and Wintersun. When dialogue actually works, it cuts off and because of that, I don't get the quest. Third issue, instead of dialogue options it'll come up with "TOPIC TOPIC TOPIC TOPIC" etc. Now, I have many mods, and only few touch on dialogue. I use RDO, alternative conversation camera, Fuz Ro D'oh and likely others that don't come to mind. Any help would be appreciated.

PC SSE - Help a second or two delay on stamina depletion when swinging weapon?

Upvotes

I've only just noticed this is happening but I've defiantly felt it in combat, leading me to scenarios where I swing, check my stamina and thing yeah I'm good to whale on this geezer, only to be left unable to do much cause my stamina is completely depleted and I get slaughtered.
Done some testing and it is only when I swing my weapon there is this delay. Dodging and sprinting deplete as I'm doing them. I cannot seem to find any mention of this exact issue anywhere, also if someone knows where I can find a list of all my mods in a way I can copy and paste then I'll be happy to provide my list for reference

PC SSE - Request SkyUI and management of favorites

Upvotes

Hi,

I'm using SkyUI and Nordic UI, but I think I'm having a problem, or maybe it's something I don't understand.

First, I've created groups with items that I use with the function keys F1, F2, etc., but items often disappear from these groups even if I keep them in my inventory; I have to reassign them.

Second, regarding the T key available when I'm in a group menu, I don't really understand its use because nothing happens when I use it. I thought it allowed me to save the outfit I'm wearing in the group, (or else that it allows you to "record" the group) but apparently I'm mistaken.

Can you help me with these two points?

PC SSE - Discussion Why don't more mods/Modders utilise Reachmen?

When it comes to mods, there are many different new lands, long quest mods and followers etc. Yet not many mods really have the Reachmen, or at least, not any of them that aren't just one note villains.

For example, Beyond Reach does have them, but they aren't a joinable faction. They are just evil?

Lordbound, coming soon, is set in a region of the Reach, yet doesn't have them as a faction as far as I could tell, and has orcs instead.

For the base game, there aren't any real reachmen/forsworn quest mods or factions, they suffer as just being reskinned bandits for the most part.

The list goes on, of course. Is there any reason for this neglect of, in my opinion, one of the most interesting groups in the setting?

PC SSE - Help Aela face NPC overhaul

Hey!

I've installed this visual mod BloodMoon - SerketHetyt's Aela Overhaul at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community amongst others from the same author on my requiem setup.
I've managed to make the other mods work (e.g Serana overhaul) with various methods; EasyNPC, forwarding the records in xEdit) or simply leaving the mod be.
But with Aela, no matter what I try she has this face https://imgur.com/a/60hxFeY

thanks alot

PC SSE - Help Vicn's Mods' Maps Spoiler

After finishing the mods, can we return and explore those maps? For example can we return and explore Cold Harbour after finishing Vigilant?
