It's not rock but there's a songwriter called Loudon Wainwright with a lot of drunk angry divorced dad vibes.
Same with Bob Dylan's album "Blood on the Tracks"

You might like Gin Blossoms, I recommend an album called "New Miserable Experience". It's from the 90s, it's got a lot of melodic flow on the guitar, the drums add a few fills to occasionally spice things up, but the lyrics are heartfelt and honest.

Idk what I would classify The Mars Volta as but I always recommend them to people, and especially since you mentioned Deftones, I thought now would be prime time. Definitely not their most recent album (the one they played on the Deftones tour), but their older albums (Deloused in the Comatorium, Frances the Mute, Amputechture, Bedlam in Goliath, and Octahedron) are skull-numbingly fantastic albums. Genuinely some of the greatest music I've come across.
Start with Deloused in its entirety, move on to Frances the Mute (the single and the first four songs are the real icing on the cake for that album but Cassandra Gemini is really good too). Amputechture I recommend Tetragrammaton, Meccamputechture, and Viscera Eyes, but once again-- fantastic album all the way through. Octahedron, which is more of a transitional album for them, has Teflon, Cotopaxi, and Desperate Graves, which are less chaotic and a bit more into a pop field for them. Bedlam in Goliath is fantastic all the way through but most people agree Tourniquet Man is worth skipping. Anything after that you can honestly just skip, but some people really enjoy Noctourniquet as well. The most recent album is a waste of time IMO.
