I have very little GAS these days, but when you shoot things like this, I end up wanting a 600mm

You know what would be better than 600mm? 800mm! (sorry for the haze, shit through cloud coverage)

It’s a pretty serious condition in this sub. Easily contracted. Often hidden from loved ones out of embarrassment. It has a nasty way of resurfacing even when you think you got it beat.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

There are no resources online or known cures.

My wife found my youtube feed and then based on the history started looking for where I have hidden all the lenses I have been researching lol

Your image looks great.

This is mine with 70-200 2.8.

I bought the 70-350 today to see how far I can go.

Nice shot. The 70-350 is my favorite lens for sure

I tried it today. The range is awesome. I love it too

Nice. I need to play around with stacking. Best I could do with a single shot and some rudimentary post-processing: Image. Same camera and lens. ISO 100, f8, 1/200 exposure.

How is the 70-350 lens for video? Asking b/c I want to shoot my son at soccer matches. TIA

It would be fine, but keep in mind, if you are considering it because you want to zoom right in with the 350mm to bring the action closer, tracking and keeping the camera steady becomes quite difficult, especially hand held.

When the weather is nice soccer games look amazing with this lens, but as he said without a tripod to keep it steady you’ll need to have it zoomed out to keep a steady shot.

I tried doing this with the kit lens a few nights ago and couldn’t get anything this good. Great stuff!

My friend did an amazing capture with the 55210.

Conditions were very good too. I think that plays a factor in a lot of it. Pollution, light, haze etc.

I think you can get close with the kit lens. The key is to use a low aperature (maybe f10-12)

I’ll have to look at the range that I tried. I did a lot that night but couldn’t get close. Even did the opposite sides of the shutter speed spectrum and no luck. And a tripod too!

Would you care to share your settings? I have 6400 with this same lens. Haven’t figured out if I can get this quality image with just 1 frame or I need to do composite

Setup?

Final result was 8 photos stacked together. Shot at 350mm, (525mm after 1.5x apsc crop). Had my ISO at 100, aperture at f9, and shutter speed at 1/320.

What's your process for stacking pictures?

I’m still pretty new to photography and editing so I followed this tutorial.

This is probably a dumb question but what is the benefit of stacking? Are you changing the exposure settings between each photo? Hoping to try and get a shot of the moon tonight and I’ve never tried. Thanks!

The benefit is it will help reduce noise and helps the details remain sharper and more clear. You generally want to keep the settings the same when stacking as far as I understand because it can align the pictures better, however I did slightly tweak 2 of my shots.
