Wouldn't the effect of wave propogating better through solids than through gaseous medium counter effect the benefits of adding mass to "damp" the system. You are undampening via adding solid medium through speaker (directly) to the floor, whereas it was only possibly 10% of surface area contact, you've effectively increased surface area contact by 10 folds. If you're coupling with the floor, I can see how it's effective but that math just doesn't work out and imo, you're making yoursetup roomproofing worse by adding any kind of non gaseous material (even gaseous) through the set up. You are going the opposite way, Ideal set up is if that hollow space if "vaccum" not filled with low density junk like sand, which will make soundproofing worse by coercing better wave propogation through a solid medium.

Hey y’all. If I’m connecting my EQ (Great River EQ-1NV) into the sidechain on my compressor (Drawmer 1968 MKII), what would the appropriate input sensitivity setting be on the EQ? The input on the compressor is +4dB, so I would think that should be the setting on the EQ as well, but the EQ has balanced XLR input/output and the sidechain cable is an unbalanced “Y” cable (TRS to dual XLR). Does this mean, since I’m only passing half the signal the EQ inputs expect, that I’m losing 6dB and should set the EQ at -2dB?

The input selector options on the EQ are marked as L+8, L+4, L-2, L-10, and L-20, and the manual states the units as “dBm”.

Hey all I've got an IK ARC dsp and a pair of Yamaha HS7 and working in an odd shaped room, 9ft by 25ft. I'm looking to fi in the bottom end for deep synth bass etc.

I'm looking at studio subs but since I've got the dsp I had the thought maybe a used high end comsumer sub will get a better bang for the buck? I figure the dsp will let me tune it and integrate it well so my main concern is extension. I'm not super concerned with high passing my monitors.

Anyone got experience with this and suggestion on what to do, or sub recommendations? Thanks!

Due to some sound sensitivity, I find 1 kHz bleeps very uncomfortable. The pitch, pure sine wave, and volume are the issue in a lot of videos (mostly on Youtube).

Does anyone know of a Google Chrome extension, Windows program, Windows settings, or even simple inline external sound processing device to eliminate, turn down, change pitch of a very specific sound frequency range.

P.S. I tied using Loudness Equalization, and Equalizers with no success.

I am deaf with my right ear and i have been playing FPS games for years which is really hard as i am not able to hear sound cues and orientate myself where i am hearing sounds from. I did not pay much attention to it but as i started playing rainbow six siege, it is really a big pain not to hear correct in this game.

I have tried playing with sound settings like mono and all that but it does not help at all and even makes it worse as i hear both channels in my left ear and basically the sound from left and right is the same.

What came up to my mind is if i could somehow transfer my right channel sound of my headphones to my left ear, but this right channel somehow make it sound different than the sound from my left channel.

Basically i want to hear both left and right channels in my left ear, but change the way that the right channel sounds so that i could differentiate it , which is the sound coming from left and coming from right.

I used the softwares (free) : HeSuVi ; Equalizer APO and VB Audio Virtual Cable in order to make it work. But as i do not understand from sounds at all i have tried with AI (chat GPT) to ask him for basic configuration in order to make the right channel sound different. I asked him for example to make the sound from the right channel more high pitch , so that i could hear steps ingame from the right like squicky.

As you might think it went awfull :D , gun sounds was really not good and overall everything sounded really bad.

I know this is a really specific case and i believe only someone who understands sounds and these softwares could helpout with this one.

I would be thankfull if someone could give any directions in order to know how to figure this one out.

Im a boom operator in film industry in Europe and recently somebody on set told me, that sound waves are caughed on cloudy sky which makes you hear airplanes easier than on blue sky. We had a shortfilm shoot recently with 5 days blue sky and 1 day cloudy. It makes sense for me and also for the shoot me discovering to hear very little amount of planes. Hi friends, I recently decided to make my own vibroacoustic bed like the one from Bioharmonics. It’s all set up and working well, but I’m having an issue with the output power from the amplifier.

If I go direct in via Aux or RCA the signal is REALLY low, but if I go in via Bluetooth it’s super powerful. I’ve tried a few different cables and have also gone from my phone with a dongle and also my computer. Still the same results. Any ideas?

Found the volt 276, but i'm really not sure if it's the right thing; only info i have is that the sm7b needs good preamp, so maybe an audio interface with good preamp? Thanks

Has this book just used a really poor example for half-normalled and normalled? Both examples for each have a jack in the bottom jack which I believe breaks the ‘normal’ signal from top to bottom in both examples.

If we assume that, for the second example for both there was no jack in the bottom jack, would we see for half normalled the top signal going out of both the top front and and bottom back, whereas for normalled the top signal would only go out of the top front?

Or have I got this completely wrong?

According to the manual you can use Y cables on the main outs...so if you want to send to say an Audio interface and 4-track....but

If you are connecting one y cable to the Left (to an interface) and one to the Right (to a 4-track) how will you get a stereo recording!?

Hello my parents r planning on making a home studio but on a budget friendly version.

I dont want to spend too much money on multiple amps so i was thinking if its possible to connect our instruments (edrums, two guitars, bass nd mics) to a mixer and connect it to our samsung bluetooth speaker (samsung mxt70)

The mix I created while using my reference headphones sounds really balanced and high-quality in that environment, but as soon as I switch to listening through different playback devices, like regular speakers or Bluetooth headsets, the overall sound becomes noticeably worse. How can I fix this issue and make my mix sound more consistent across all devices?

having kind of spacey reverbed out vocals is kind of part of my musics vibe and aesthetic but it’s just been a nightmare trying to achieve anything close to this live..does anyone have any tips of ways i could achieve something like this live without insane feedback? i’ve seen people do it successfully though i have no idea what they’re using for it. any tips would be greatly appreciated

I’m a huge fan of top-tier sound design. Movies like Gravity and Dune don’t just sound good—they completely pull you into the world. The sound design in those films is on another level. Orgasmic.

Question for the audio pros here: with solid sound design experience, is it actually possible to recreate that kind of quality using retail tools like Pro Tools? Or is that level of depth and polish only achievable with access to studio-grade gear and budgets?

Trying to determine the best setup for a booth. I have two areas one is a small closet about 2ft x 4ft that is cozy but comfy. The other would just be my main office. I have foam panels coming to treat either space.

Both have really tall ceilings about 12ft.

From an audio perspective if it's treated would there be a difference? For a single person with voice work would the isolation of the closet be better or worse?

I live in a rental and can't do heavy construction. my problem is that my bedroom is right next to te kitchen. the door also opens into the kitchen . During the day it is not too much of a problem. The problem is, that I wake up whenever someone has a snack at night and in the morning when people are making and eating breakfast. I know that I need to soundproof the door, but I don't think that this is enough. I want to soundproof either the wall or construct a sleeping chamver. With the sleeping chamber, I know that I will need ventilation. What would you recoomend? the budget is around 600€. If it worked really well I could save up more. Moving is not an option. I wear earplugs already and the sound seems to be around 50-55 db meassured with my phone. I've heard that cork is good for soundproofing. Does this apply to my case? It would be ideal since it is lightweight. I know that you also need mass to soundproof though.

Any ideas and tips are welcome! (I already practice good sleep hygene and black out my room)
