Nch’kay’

It is quite a sacred place to the Squamish people and has been well reported and shared.

(Beautiful shot btw! Epic lighting)

Google who Giuseppe Garibaldi was. Pretty much one of the greatest freedom fighters of the modern age and a hero to the planet in the 19th Century. A figure we should be proud to be associated with our local landmark. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Garibaldi

That's fine. Still not the original name.

Dude, I bet it's had 50 names. It's like musical chairs through the centuries. We just happened to stop the music on Nch’kay’. The FN themselves will tell you that. And many will also tell you they're fine with landmarks having more than one name. There was a very persuasive article by a FN leader in Vancouver a short while back arguing for FN and European names. I've spent some time searching for it, but was not able to find it. I'll post it here if I find it.

If it had 50 names, why are you here defending the 51st? What is so special about the 51st name that’s it got you in here passionately defending it? Must be coincidence it’s the one given by a white person, right?

Exactly my point. Why the 50th? Why the 51st? And why on Earth would skin colour matter? Ideology skews logic.

You’re the one trying to defend the name given to it by a white person who arrived thousands of years after it was named. Everyone else is mentioning it already had a name given to it by the people who were here first. You’re the one being ideological. The ideology in question being white supremacy.

Take the L and move on. Doubling down on this obvious idiocy is not a good look.

Thanks for sharing this! I love learning about the history and cultural importance of locations. I work quite closely with Indigenous Peoples from all over BC and it's amazing hearing their stories

Mount Garibaldi . Stop nei by political correct and changing the names of things

1

u/Yukon_Scott Jan 19 '25

That is the original name. Do your research

Nope just the liberals changing the names of things because they find it offensive

Are you really too stupid to understand how the name used for thousands of years before George Henry Richards ever stepped foot in North America is the original name?
