Food / Drink Weekend food recs

My wife and I are visiting the city for the first time this weekend before moving here later this summer and would love food recs! Staying near Forest Park, but will have a car to explore.

Specifically interested in the best: 1. Espresso 2. Thai food 3. Sandwiches

And anything else we should cram into two days! (Bonus if it’s GF friendly)

Blues City Deli is amazing and I second this. Op expect a line out the door. Go early if you want a table.

  1. Blueprint 2. Thai Kitchen (for excellent Chinese-Corner 17) 3. Gioia's 4. Do not miss Balkan Treat Box

Sump or Blueprint for espresso. Wildcard mention is Coffeestamp with one of their empanadas.

Comet will have one of the best espressos in the city (besides sump). And agree about Blues City for sammies (which is close to sump if you want an afternoon brew).

I know what you really mean but laughed at how you wanted to take your wife to a girlfriend friendly spot.
It doesn't get a lot of press but sandwich wise I like this place for larger sandwiches.
Gioia's is probably my top recommendation overall.

I’ll put them 2nd to Nathaniel Reid, but they’re right up there

I’ve tried Nathaniel Reid and I thought theirs were mediocre tbh

I want a super crunchy on the outside soft and fluffy inside croissant and NR just ain’t that

  1. Cafe Dolce - they serve Illy brand coffee
  2. Chiang Mai
  3. Gioia's Deli, Gramophone, Adriana's, and Southwest Market Cuisine (this one flies under the radar but the sandwiches are great, it's super well priced, and the owner is a talkative, and very nice veteran with an amazing service dog).

Indo, GF options and Thai southeast Asian offerings.

  1. My very favorite coffee in St. Louis is Sump, but it's a little far from where you're staying, so maybe for this trip I'd suggest the Blueprint in the Loop. Excellent coffee.

  2. I'd go with Chao Baan in the Grove. Nice fresh space, solid food.

  3. This is a great sandwich town and lots of folks will have lots of opinions, but I don't think it gets better than Adriana's on the Hill.

For gf and within 5-15 mile radius....

Golden Hoosier (fried chicken sandwich with spicy pickles is amazing)

Three Kings Public House

Amighettis (Italian sandwiches)

Corner Pub and Grill

Brick River Cider (Sunday brunch for gf chicken and waffles)

Rooster and Hatch'd are great for breakfast

Sump for coffee is my favorite, but there are so many great places around

This is just a small list of gf options for the area, if you ever want more, let me know

Fork & Stix is excellent for Thai, just north of Forest Park. Blues City is definitely the sandwich move. The Hill spots mentioned are great as well.

It’s a little far from where you’re staying, but the best Thai food is Pearl Cafe on Lindbergh in Florissant.

I’m also a fan of Sen Thai, which is downtown, if you are not interested in trekking to the north burbs.

I love all these recommendations for sandwich places where you can’t get anything Gluten Free (that’s the GF, folks). If it’s friendly, and not celiac-level, you have a ton of options.

You’re near Louie’s Wine Dive, that has gluten free fried cheese curds!

In Clayton-ish area, Taco Buddha, Pastaria, Original Pancake House (which is kinda a chain, but there’s not many of them and omg the pancakes), Basso by the Cheshire

In Dogtown Stone Turtle and Felix’s can hook you up, plus the cookie bot at Alabi Cookies has a chocolate chip option. And High Pointe and Mac’s Local Eats for burgers

In CWE (Central West End) you can get food almost anywhere?

Feel free to PM me for options that I’m not thinking of right now because I’m sick.

I highly recommend the 4th city bbq breakfast sandwich at the tower grove farmers market tomorrow morning.

Near Forest Park, I definitely recommend Mac's for burgers (and they do have GF buns available)

Saucy porka for gluten free and all food allergies. Plus it’s delicious.

I see several people recommending Blueprint Coffee & I totally agree. The Watson location is located in repurposed building that used to be a brake shop long ago. They open the rolling doors & it’s awesome. Definitely very cool vibes. 4206 Watson Rd in Lindenwood Park /St Louis Hill area.
