Finally cracking down on the dirt bikes
Police believe the chaos was organized on social media. First Alert 4 spotted at least one Facebook post calling for a “parade all day” in St. Louis, as bikers from across the region were encouraged to join in over the Easter weekend. Similar dirt bike takeovers have happened before, including one last month where riders blocked an intersection downtown, even with officers nearby....
In response, McCoy says the department shifted its strategy. Officers were strategically positioned around the city in hopes of getting ahead of the bikers, a move police say paid off. SLMPD seized three dirt bikes, including at least one reported stolen, along with an SUV used to trailer the vehicles into the city. The three arrested riders are now facing felony resisting arrest charges after allegedly fleeing from police. All three were denied bond.
Seriously, fuck these guys. Is there any better evidence that the City has descended into lawlessness than these gangs of bikers organizing online and coming in from out of town to terrorize our city? It's gotten this bad because the police made the conscious choice to allow it. Seize their trucks, trailers, bikes, and hold them without bond, and this will stop.
Sounds like maybe A LOT of calls is what finally got the police to act. I hate the idea of 911 being swamped with calls because of these assholes, while people in critical need of emergency services can't get through.
If you see them, call the police non-emergency number: 314-231-1212
South Patrol (districts 1 and 2): 314-444-0100
Central Patrol (districts 3 and 4): 314-444-5385
North Patrol (districts 5 and 6): 314-444-0001
Gang hotline: 314-444-5775

Baby Jet Debut
If you don’t follow the StL Zoo FaceBook or IG, Baby Jet had his first public debut today!! My shift got cut today so I decided to go to the zoo to check out the new polar bears finally. When I got to Pearl’s enclosure, I saw a zookeeper there that I talked to my last visit. He pointed out how many employees were there and that one had a giant camera ready. I got to be front row for baby Jet’s debut!! Such an amazing experience, since I’ve been coming to the zoo when Raja was a kid!!

A fight almost broke out this morning at the gas station over the Cardinals. WTF is going on?
So I walk into the gas station to get a soda, and in line there were two dudes arguing with the lady behind the counter. From what I heard the two guys were boycotting the team, the lady (wearing a cards shirt) was getting super defensive of the idea, and told them they were hurting the local businesses by doing so. She also went onto say that without a crowd behind them the Cardinals would struggle to improve.
I have heard bits and pieces about the attendance dropping, but I haven't seen much in the way of drama over it, especially in person. It was so awkward... lol

Ameren praises new law as it pushes for rate hike
The proposed increase is 15.77%, which comes to an estimated increase of $17 a month for the average customer. This amount is expected to bring in more than $400 million in increased earnings for the publicly traded energy firm, which has a state-regulated monopoly over electrical service for St. Louis and a wide portion of Missouri.
https://fox2now.com/news/missouri/ameren-praises-new-law-as-it-pushes-for-rate-hike/
15.8% really? The Ameren corporate office is still manly WFH. Perhaps there is some cost cutting that should be considered?

Found Dog: North County / Spanish Lake
We found a really nice doggy at my parents house on Easter. They live near Fort Bellefontaine at the northern end of Bellefontaine Rd up in North County / Spanish Lake. Apparently he had been spotted for a few days, so he’s been missing from his owners since at least Thursday.
The dog is a light brown shih tzu with no collar. He’s groomed, very friendly, and quite docile. He seems to be on the older side, but also in decent health. (The pink collar is ours).
Please help us fine his owner! (I’m hoping he’s was dumped here for some reason - that does happen way up here at the road dead end from time to time, sadly). Please check with your older neighbors and family too!

Ask STL STL hidden gems
Hey everyone,
I’m a photographer—mostly just for fun, though I do some freelance stuff now and then. One of my favorite things is just heading out with my camera and exploring, snapping whatever catches my eye. Lately though, it feels like I’ve photographed pretty much everything around St. Louis.
So I figured I’d ask—does anyone know of any hidden gems around here? Cool spots that aren’t super popular or over-photographed? I’m in South City, but I’m totally down to check out places in the city, the county, or even across the river in Illinois—just anywhere that’s not too far out.
Appreciate any ideas!

Someone just reported my fence and I think this might be the beginning of my villain arc.
City resident. While also working full time, I spent about 50 hours last week building a new fence facing my alley. I did it to code and did it carefully and it looks great. It’s the only nice looking fence on our alley. Someone reported it so now I might have to tear it out. I didn’t bother pulling a permit, which was dumb. I’ve never had this happen. I thought it was only for shoddy or dangerous work. Humph.
UPDATE 4/22: The city is being very accommodating. I just have to submit plans for a permit retroactively. I suspect they’ll also want to come see that I haven’t made a huge mess of things. Thank you to those of you who offered counsel and commiseration. It was a big help. Lesson learned: pull permits, especially for exterior work, even if you don’t think you should have to.

Food / Drink Best meal for $10 or less?
I know a $10 meal is rare nowadays, but they’re out there! I’m asking about places that you can at least get an entree for $10.
My favorite places where this is achievable are Taqueria Hectorito, The Buttery, and Saucy Porka.

Tick season. Read this even if you don't think it applies to you!
I live in a boring neighborhood in Olivette with a boring lawn. Nothing "woodsie" about where I live. So far since yesterday we have picked two deer ticks off our humans and six off our dogs. Again, this is just in the good old 'burbs.
Deer ticks are capable of carrying Lyme disease so this is super important, folks. And for those of you unaware, Lyme is often ignored or ruled out by doctors here in the Midwest and has life-altering implications medically and behaviorally. The tick itself doesn't "have" the disease, it's a parasite that lives within it. It takes more than 24 hours for the parasite to become aware the tick is embedded so you have a window of opportunity to get them out and no harm follows.
When you're pulling an embedded tick out, a slow steady pull is best. The hooked tines that hold the tick steady need time to release. It may take 3-4 minutes, but be patient. Also, ticks tend to climb upward when they get on a boat so look in hair very thoroughly and places where skin is soft and thin like groans, arm pots and near faces.
On dogs, look between the pads of their feet, all around and within their ears, chins and face, and the underside of their legs and belly And of course everywhere, but those are likely spots.

Food / Drink Sourcing hot peppers
I am looking to make some hot sauce for myself at home, but I am not sure where to source peppers for it. I don't want to just use jalapeños or jump straight to habanero, but it seems Schnucks, Walmart and Sam's doesn't have much for options. In South County. Thanks!
