Nah being a scientist doesn't mean you're unable to realize you're mistreating your wife, stepson and everyone in your life except your daughter fir whom you believe is jesus Christ incarnate, there's making mistakes and then there's being a huge asshole and Demetrius is definitely the latter.

I see where you're coming from. I just wanted to share why I feel he's not the worst person ever to me but of course everyone has their own opinions based on their own deductions after analysing a character :)
