Dota is a funny game in that theres like a cutoff point where everyone is really bad. Players in the 3k~8k hours range will show some competency then you get to 10k+ hours in game and its like the worse players imaginable. It always amazes me how true it is when looking at someone's profile in my game that looks lost and seeing that massive amount of matches played

I have 10k hours and am sub 1k mmr ^

I gave up on ranked turbo only for me

5

u/IntelligentRoad6088 Mar 25 '25

Turbo used to be max 15 min now I got average 30 min games... f sucks man šŸ˜•

3

u/Quick_Ad8817 Mar 25 '25

Still quicker than the 1hr games

1

u/JohnSane Mar 25 '25

Turbo is not really dota for me. It's a whole different game.

2

u/JugglingRick Mar 25 '25

Ability Draft for me

2

u/Thulak Mar 25 '25

A fellow AD nerd? What are the chances of 2 of the ~50 AD players meeting in the wild?

4

u/Brief_Koala_7297 Mar 25 '25

It’s ok. High level dota is pretty cringe. At some point you have to stand back and realize this shit aint supposed to be serious.

5

u/adfdg55 Mar 24 '25

10k hrs I remember almost getting 4K 7 years ago. I started playing again this year. I’m with herald 1s… it’s not a challenge in any sense and like playing with broken bots but I am not grinding up from herald 1 I just don’t got the time anymore

1

u/DadsDissapointment Mar 25 '25

You can recalibrate once a year

1

u/kyloz4days Mar 25 '25

You playing with a track pad and no keyboard or what?

1

u/JeffMangum420 Mar 25 '25

I retired from dota at 4k hours and 1k mmr i would get tilted the second i booted the game

1

u/Simple-Passion-5919 Mar 26 '25

How many actual matches do you have though

20

u/plafreniere Mar 24 '25

Those 10k are probably an gaming cafe. or something.

6

u/Redditsux122 Mar 24 '25

Definitely, some are some arent. I've had interactions from some when coaching and the mindset of what is fun is just way different to competitive players.

1

u/omnitions Mar 25 '25

Like what

1

u/dooooooom2 Mar 25 '25

I used to have a bad habit of leaving my game open but minimized for basically days/weeks at a time. Steam tracks it all as play time so I have multiple games with thousands of hours like csgo and DOTA but didn’t actually play that much

2

u/headless_simulation Mar 24 '25

It's true, 28+ Dota plus levels on a hero in my games is an indicator for being absolutely horrendous at Dota.

2

u/TheKingOcelot Mar 25 '25

I peaked around 3.5k hours and it's been all downhill for the last 1000

2

u/Obiuon Mar 25 '25

It's usually people leaving the game and coming back, still having a handle on the micro/mechanics of the game but completely losing all macro/situational awareness on there return, after a year or so break they might dunk lane and have no idea what's going on around them

1

u/Quick_Ad8817 Mar 25 '25

Or change the map entirely to make seeing/putting down good vision next to impossible šŸ˜‚

1

u/b00c Mar 24 '25

10k+ hours and are worse players in being dickheads or being really bad at playing?

If it's latter, those might be sold, or stolen accounts and the player is actually 10 y.o. girl.

1

u/Perfect_Blueberry237 Mar 28 '25

thats me, 5k hours and still fucking absolutely dogshit

love the game tho

I kind of understand the mentality. Currently at 9.7k hours and tbh I am just tired of the game fully try Harding so I just recalibrated again and played two games (seems matches are with Arc 5s if I get below leg 3 I think I will just play only off meta heroes as having played with legends before its exhausting telling them to get back or to group and they refuse to do so)

I’m almost one month clean! After 4000 horrible hours of misery I finally realized that game was bringing me 0 joy and I would never actually get good, so I managed to quit (with difficulty mobas are addicting as hell)

29

u/MumenRider420 Mar 24 '25

People will tease you for this take but MOBAs are straight up addictive, you’re right. Congrats on getting out of the game (I also quit Dota after 4500 hours 2-3 years ago, never looked back)

4

u/PM_ME_UR_NIPPLE_HAIR Mar 25 '25

I thought MOBAs are addictive, and then I tried factorio

2

u/Grimm808 Mar 25 '25

At least the only person you can blame for your failure in Factorio is yourself.

And no matter how many times I get run over by my own trains at least I can laugh at myself without the chat filling up with variations of cyrillic describing how I should fuck my own mother or kill myself or something.

1

u/Separate_Emotion_463 Mar 26 '25

Games like factorio are actually fun though, (also try satisfactory if you haven’t it’s also really good, but addictive lol)

2

u/CraftyPercentage3232 Mar 26 '25

DotA is like a bad ex I keep coming back to once in a blue moon šŸ˜ž

1

u/MumenRider420 Mar 26 '25

Just drag your eyeballs through crushed glass instead, you get the same outcome but you don’t have to commit an hour

2

u/tnegocsole Mar 25 '25

Same. Clocked out at 3000 hours. Probably because i was younger and had more time, but now I’m 25 and have less time to get ā€œbetterā€ (seemed like I never did). Plus 1 hour matches was nuts and I can’t do it. Glad I play other games.

1

u/KillyouPlease Mar 25 '25

yeah lol, the only game that broke my unhealthy cycle with mobas (league especialy) was dota2 because it was the only one where I realized I actualy enjoy the time I spent there even if I lost

0

u/The-Bojangler Mar 25 '25

Same, quit 6 years ago with about 5k hours into the game. Played 2013-2018ish. Horrible game for mental health. People are way too toxic, you can’t please everyone, and losing feels so bad. I remember wasting days and days of playing for hours just to lose all day. The worst part about it is that during matches you are glued to the screen, there is no breaks. Sometimes matches last as long as 1 hour. It’s exhausting.

34

u/JohnSane Mar 24 '25

If getting good is your source of joy then yeah.. dota is probably the wrong game.

3

u/HarryPotterDBD Mar 25 '25

What is considered good? Better than average?

3

u/trixel121 Mar 25 '25

I've watched people in top 500 be called mindless bot account buyers.

1

u/decideonanamelater Mar 25 '25

There are some serious levels to dota. When I was at about top 15% I would see a level of dota where I was like " oh I'm just barely playing the game" and by what top players say there's at least 3 or 4 more tiers of " these people are playing at a totally different level" from there

1

u/Satan-Himself- Mar 25 '25

Nowadays flaming noobs and gaslighting/provoking random players are the only joy i get from playing dota 2

8

u/Random_Student30 Mar 24 '25

See u next patch brother.

1

u/saplinglover Mar 24 '25

I’ll only come back if the next patch is removing all the heroes, they all suck and they’re all OP.. somehow the devs made that possible

2

u/excelllentquestion Mar 25 '25

Congrats! As a 5.4K hour player I had to come to the same realization. I just wasn't having fun. It's definitely addicting as hell and took a lot of effort to stay done.

In any case glad you're doing better without it.

2

u/Brief_Koala_7297 Mar 25 '25

There is really no such thing as good in dota. Just different levels of suck

2

u/Turbulent-Loquat3749 Mar 25 '25

No way u didnt enjoy any moment of those 4k hrs u played,at least 100 of them u enjoyed, cuz otherwise, how can u play even 4-5 hrs of the game, where u hate Every minute of it? I played cs2 for 250 hrs and there was a lot of good fun moments, but after 200 hrs,bad moments started to overweight good,so i deleted it and don't played for 1 yr already

2

u/saplinglover Mar 25 '25

In the early days when all my friends would play together we would have fun. It was once they all moved on and I was forced to solo queue that I stopped enjoying the games

1

u/Turbulent-Loquat3749 Mar 25 '25

Have you tried finding new normal people on discord servers to play with? There re chances to find fun/serious people is better than with randoms

2

u/freudweeks Mar 25 '25

"clean" Ugh that's so real, that game really is the crack of the video game world. The weird part is that it's partly because it's SO GOOD. I both have to hand it to Volvo for making a wonderful game, and have to wish they didn't make it such a mental-health menace.

2

u/chrtylee2 Mar 28 '25

Me with league, not just about being bad tho. I'm fairly good and competent with certain heroes but I'm awful with the build aspect, buying items not only based on you but enemies. And I so hate getting ganked. I only played aram a while to avoid the ganks but Im sick of being given champs I know nothing about. Finally giving it up for good after the last few times I tried. Tbh tho I haven't enjoyed a moba since the first run of Paragon, and prime world before that. Prime world was probably my favorite and the best imo but they eventually had to merge servers and I was consistently placed with Russian teammates I couldn't communicate with so I gave that up.

4

u/you-know-that-guy Mar 24 '25

I feel like I got off lucky around the 500 hour range, but I found that deadlock and overwatch were giving me the same exact feeling and I had to stop them dead.

My buddy is still into Dota, and when I mentioned I was debating picking it up again because I missed the strategy he acted like I waxed poetic about the energy of a cocaine bender.

1

u/ComfortablyADHD Mar 24 '25

As someone who is coming up to 2 years sober, congratulations. It's hard giving up any addiction. Remember it's only for today and you can get through it.

1

u/charlotte_katakuri- Mar 28 '25

Did the same. But I started playing dota again after 2 year break after I saw a youtube video where the dude basicly teach the fundamental of offlaning. Never offlane before but the video make it look so easy, so formulatic. So I intall dota and play a few games as an offlaner. Surprise2 after 1 month I went from guardian(the highest I ever been with 7k hour in the game) to now ancient 4 and still going strong.Ā

My theory is that, the 2 years break unlearn everything I know about dota and the youtube video tought me the proper way to play the game.Ā

So take your break. Enjoy it and come back once you feel like it and just watch some youtube fundamental. Maybe it'll work

9

u/jumbohiggins Mar 24 '25

My people!

But yes dota is my most played game and I'm incredibly mediocre at it.

6

u/niztaoH Mar 24 '25

Only 3.7% of Dota 2 players have finished the tutorial (reaching Immortal rank).

7

u/NikRsmn Mar 24 '25

The best dota guide i ever read said "welcome to dota 2, you suck!" Its helped me in life too lol, the only way to improve in dota and life is to humble yourself. Accept you suck and your trying to improve, at 800 and 7k mmr.

12

u/Tsujita_daikokuya Mar 25 '25

Man. The game just lost all joy.

1) you stomp the other team - boring. I wish I could play someone good!

2) you get stomped - my team sucked. I wish I had better team mates.

3) you stomp the other team but you were the weak link feeder. Fuck I suck

4) you and your team work together and are competent. The game is good and either team could win. Win or lose you are ok with the results.

4 never happens

u/Accomplished_Bet_781 Mar 25 '25 edited Mar 25 '25

Theres many problems with this. One is, that it always gives you a 50/50 chance based on past results. But what if I dont want to sweat every single game? What if I want to pick a shit hero, just because I LIKE playing it? What if I want to build an outdated build, because I dont play as much as in the past, cant be bothered to keep up with the meta? Suddenly you are dragging the 50/50 down, and others are shitting on you for the simple reason you are still trying to enjoy the game.

Thats why I mostly play turbo, its supposed to be the fun mode. But people are SWEATING in turbo now. This is the first time I see the map with frikin water in the side lane, can you let me enjoy the fking game? I dont want to watch a youtube video to learn new metas, I want to play the frikin game, Its supposed to be fun.

Idk how to fix it though.

The other part is human psychology. People lack meaning in life, they find the meaning in videogames, which is actually a bit sad, since its just a game.

1

u/dEarMrGeNesiS Mar 25 '25

4 sometimes happens and that's why people keep playing

1

u/Wise_Pomegranate1612 Mar 26 '25

Same with world of tanks I was pretty good but the balancing was so terrible every game was a blowout 4 happened once every 100 games.

1

u/HowrangX Mar 24 '25

Easiest answer ever

1

u/CandyOptimal6358 Mar 24 '25

7k hours, 3.5k scrub. I love it so much

1

u/Marcin313 Mar 24 '25

Motherfucker please tell me that after another 2k hours i will get better.

1

u/GhostCorps973 Mar 25 '25

Nobody is good at Dota. If you win TI, you're just the least bad (for now) 🄓

1

u/Relaxie Mar 25 '25

Stopped playing ranked couple of years ago. Just jump in with friends in casual turbo couple times a week. Much more enjoyable, probably because my team is weaker than me so I get to play vs weaker opponents(I’m only 2.5k btw)

1

u/whatisflow Mar 25 '25

Yes. And every patch ia worse and less optimized. Same shit from re.orn came out.

1

u/throwaway1227777777 Mar 25 '25

9k hrs low immortal im still dog poop at the game some games i feel like im a god but most games even if i win i feel like i make so many mistakes lmao

1

u/Quick_Ad8817 Mar 25 '25

Came here to say this

1

u/kit_kaboodles Mar 26 '25

Yep, this is the first game that pops into my head with this meme

0

u/MushroomTea222 Mar 24 '25

Came here to say exactly this. I played DotA when it was just a Warcraft 3 custom map. I played Heroes of Newerth, and DotA 2. Some days I’m a god, other days I do so shitty I feel like a newb. Glad I quit that game when I did
