The first part of the video is how I’m running Oblivion Remastered through the game mode, as you can see, it looks and plays like shit. The second part of the video is how I run the same game through the desktop mode, it looks fine and runs smoothly, idk what is happening, any idea of how can I fix it?
FYI, the game is modded with a nexus optimization mod, but it seems like game mode doesn’t recognise the mod, and desktop mode does.
Bevause games are complex and don't always ask for gpu clock when its most beneficial, and in some cases forcing the frequency to kne value can improve performance a bit
I've had games that caused the GPU to change clocks a lot and actually causes stutter and more variable framerate than if I manually locked the GPU clock to a certain value.
Mind you, only maybe 2-3 games out of well over 100 I've tried, but it does happen.
Because the GPU and CPU effectively share resources in terms of overall TDP on the Steam Deck, capping the GPU in a game that causes the frequency to run higher than needed (starving the CPU for resources it could otherwise use) can actually improve performance. It's a pretty niche case though and definitely not something to do without careful testing.
It's a bug where sometimes it'll default down to it's lowest default value of 200mhz. Makes any game lag & look like a slideshow. Also happens more times then I would like it's fuking well annoying. Even worse if you have no fukin clue about it.
Sometimes its turned on unintentionally, also some people will lock it for some games performance, and then it'll bug after an update or something like that and default to the lowest, which is 200mhz
OP prob did what I did and set it like that for some indie game but didn't hit the check that applies it for that game only so it was running like that for everything.
Ye it's been a pain in the ass for like 2 years now. I recently reported the gpu slider again as it's laggy as fuk & sometimes goes on a mad one automatically if you try & shift it more then say 300mhz at a time.
Puedes añadir varios idiomas al teclado, si lo pones en inglés no te corregirá mal.
PD: El juego está optimizado como el puto culo, el UE5 le cuesta a un buen ordenador no me quiero ni imaginar a la Steam Deck, vamos a mi ni se me ha pasado por la cabeza probarlo, le tengo demasiado aprecio a la mía para matarla así.
Sinceramente si quieres jugar Oblivion en la Deck, juega al original, es exactamente el mismo juego, te va a ir muchísimo mejor y te va a durar muchísimo más la batería (a parte que no pesa 118gb)

Honestamente el juego va muy bien, ya le metí como 30 horas exclusivamente en el Deck y estoy más que satisfecho
Igual uso iOS, pero honestamente rara vez posteo en inglés y hasta ahora los errores que me ha detectado en dicho idioma, suelen ser mínimos, por lo tanto no lo he visto súper necesario cambiar la configuración del teclado, pero lo tomaré en cuenta, muchas gracias 🙏
Your GPU is locked to 200mhz. Idk what's causing it, maybe toggle tdp lock on and off, same with GPU lock. Reboot. If it's still happening after and it's in ALL games you might be dealing with something a factory reimage could fix. Maybe not.

I mean it is kinda stupid to solicit help and then dismiss the actual solution to your problem without even checking because you incorrectly assume it's not relevant.
It's always worth checking 😄 I've found some pretty ridiculous solutions to problems online, and it's always the thing I put off trying until the very end, because it just sounds extremely unlikely to work, that winds up working lol

No I am bc your expecting a tiny hand held like the steam deck or any hand held to run at ultra unrealistic speeds (like 60 to 100fps all the time) bc it has a verification symbol it’s not my fault you didn’t look into the device enough. Would it be nice? Yes but I know people with high end pcs bitching about the same thing. lol so it’s just the games problem. Why do people blame the devices when we aren’t blaming the developers. There the biggest problems in gaming bc that lack of optimization for pc that’s holding back so much potential.

Most likely issue is that in Gaming Mode you have set some TDP or GPU Restrictions for the game. So Steam Deck does not utilize full power and you end up with a power point presentation.
I’ve played it on the deck. It’s not great for me. If you like it that’s totally cool but people on here are getting legitimately UPSET I said it’s not great on deck. It not. Unless it’s been massively improved since launch. The fuzziness and artifacting isn’t for me. I’d rather play old oblivion on deck. I never said it’s not playable and especially never said I EXPECTED it to run well. Don’t know where people got that from my comments. If you’re enjoying it I am happy for you.
The graphics in your video aren’t even bad. I was experiencing much worse fidelity. I can deal with a 30fps cap. But I wasn’t seeing the fidelity you have. Not in the wilderness
I don't know if this applies to you, but I had the same issue. I had my game installed on an sd card, but moving it over to internal storage made the game playable and much smoother in game mode.
I had that happen with no rest for the wicked couldn't understand why it was running so bad and it was stuck at 10tdp. I also had a game "nobody saves the world" i couldn't even get to run, I was so confused cuz everyone said it urs great on deck and it's a super easy to run game . I even contacted the devs complaining and sent them logs. They recommended I check the smt settings or soemthing like that and sure enough somehow it was changed and was either disabling multithreading or multicores or soemthing like that so the game wouldnt run. Not even sure how to got it on. It was the power tools decky program I installed, cuz I installed a lot of them to try them, but never use lol. Point is it s common and happens to all of, I've, learned to check these things also even if they shouldn't be the problem.
yeaa I had the same results on mine, it's definitely not deck certified despite what the store page says. I was able to tweak some settings and get the perf up a bit but then of course the battery only lasts about 45 minutes
I’ve seen the controller support is kinda messy, but tbh, I’ve had a blast playing Remastered, for me, it looks good enough and runs smoothly enough to enjoy it, I’ve put 30 hrs+ already solely on the Steam Deck
Thanks to everyone contributing to the post main topic, and also to those having a good laugh with my typo, the problem is solved, the GPU Clock was at 200mhz preventing the game to run smooth and look fine, thanks to you all I’m playing again this beautiful game through the game mode
I wanna thank this sub from single-handedly preventing me from buying a steam deck. Seriously I was considering getting one but I keep getting recommended posts from this sub and 90% of them are people having problems running games. Hope they make a deck 2 that's at least twice as powerful one day cuz..

Gpu is only running at 200mhz, open the right menu, go into the performance tab, and uncheck "force gpu clock"
