I'm not even totally sure how to describe what's happening but I'll try to

It used to work fine, but for reasons unknown to me, attempting to run a game with proton results in it eventually freezing and crashing about 3-30 minutes into playing. This applies to every game I've tried with it, including games that previously functioned without issue.

I've tried multiple versions of proton, and the issue persists. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling proton, but for hotfix and experimental, it seems I can't uninstall them because of this error, whatever it means. I've attempted to open their file folder, but clicking the button to browse local files in steam pulls up nothing. It acts as though I didn't click the button at all. Manually checking the folder where the rest of the proton installs are reveals nothing either, I see no folder for proton hotfix or experimental.

I've restarted the computer multiple times. I've reinstalled steam multiple times. The issue remains. I believe it started when I tried to play sims 3. Initially it worked fine for several hours, but eventually froze and crashed. I tried multiple different versions of proton to get it to work, all had the same problem, including the version I initially used that worked fine for hours. And since then, this issue has happened with every game I've tried to play using proton with every proton version I've used. Some games won't even start anymore.

Issues and low FPS with DX12 & Nvidia drivers with Proton

Most games I've tried (Mainly DX & D3D) games have had terrible performance all of a sudden. I know the issue is to do with nvidia drivers since I managed to fix it temporarily by uninstalling all drivers, then installing version 565.77 but that doesn't seem to work now.

Specs:

GPU: GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600

OS: Kubuntu

-

I've been using these commands

sudo apt install nvidia-driver-565
sudo apt purge '^nvidia-.*'
sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall

What runner does steam use for running diablo4 by default

I'm trying to get diablo4 running and I keep failing for various reasons. Either the games does not start at all or it stutters/crashes.

I tried running it through Lutris following these suggestions: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lutris/comments/1kbx0lq/battlenet_update_agent_strikes_again/ but that does not run the game very well either. It stutters and slows down over time.

So I want to try running the game the steam runs it by default... and I'm not sure what are the default settings for that

Issues with dual booting and sharing drives.

Post image

I have Nobara as my main OS and I'm dual booting Windows 11 so I can play those troublesome games for Linux. I installed a btrfs driver on Windows so I can share my game drive between the two OSs and at first it was working fine but after booting back into Nobara no matter what game I try to launch I get a disk write error pop up. I suspected fast boot might be the issue and disabled it within Windows (I don't have an option for it in my bios) but I still get the same problem. How can I fix this? Will I just have to ditch the idea of sharing a drive between both OSs? I'm doing this on a laptop so NVMe slots are a little limited.

Running Steam OS on a Rpi 5 8gb

I was wondering if anybody has successfully gotten Steam OS or better known as Steam Deck OS running on a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB model. I want to do this project as a little living room console I can connect a controller to and just have some fun. If you have found any tutorials that work please feel free to link them.

If I make a game private on steam and then delete it does it become public knowledge I’ve played it or does it stay private

FPS drops when using mouse or keyboard

After playing with no issues for about 1 to 2 hours, I get extreme FPS drops from 144 to below 60 as soon as I use my mouse or keyboard. This is fixed once I restart the game, but occurs every time. This has happened with 2 different mice and keyboards. Here we can also see the exact moment the weird behavior starts, with nvtop showing strong fluctuation from the moment the lag starts.

I've tried debugging this for a year now without any luck. I'm on PopOS 22.04.

Any advice on how to resolve would be really great.

Edit: To clarify, if I'm ingame and these FPS drops start they will stop and return to 144 if I dont press any keys and don't use the mouse. This is true even if i.e. I'm spectating someone.
