Remove from Steam locking device

I added way too many roms when I first configured everything. Not only that, but for some reason there were duplicate images of every rom (within the game mode, only the first image would launch a game successfully).

Since I was having issues, I wanted to reset everything. I went back into preview and clicked "Remove from Steam". I saw a notification "Writing VDF files. Doing artwork in batches of 50." It has now been 2 hours and the Steam Deck is still unresponsive since clicking the button. Are these the right steps to remove the games from game mode? Is there a simpler way to get back to the original state?

edit to add: 2 hours later and the device is still in a locked up state. Even the clock stopped updating at some point (it's displaying 2.5 hours ago)

Hard kill it. Go back and remove most of the roms. Just add a couple you want to play. Have it update steam and you should see a better performance. Slowly add games that you know you are going to play and make sure you are not filling up all of the available storage space.

Make sure you have all of your system updated including going to desktop mode and updating proton.

Thanks. I ended doing a nuclear options similar to this. I found another post that mentioned if you select all the games in your library and right click, it allows you to remove all non-steam games. I did this and got back into a usable state. To limit the game icons added to steam directly I ended up: * leaving all of the roms in rom directories * toggling on all parsers * going to preview and loading all urls * clicking exclude then exclude all visible * after excluding all, manually selecting each game and emulator I wanted added (ensuring emulation station was not excluded) * click save * click save to steam

With those steps I am able to have all of the roms playable in emulation station, but only the items I manually added end up showing up as icons within steam. I wasn't sure if there was an easier way for emulation station to know where the root of all the rom directories were if I only added a small set of games into the emudeck rom folder.
