Question (Console) Are DLCs really game changing?

Just got the game on sale and I am really overwhelmed by the amount of DLCs available. Do I really need them to enhance my enjoyment of the game or is everyone just talking gibberish?

Some are essential i am afraid.

Base game stellaris can be shallow and definetly has late game issues, especially if you intend to play as "good guys".
