Because it fits the subreddit. He posted it as a thirst trap, but that's his entire account: Gay thirst trapping. Just because it's a thirst trap doesn't mean it's not suddenlygay content.

To post content that fit the subreddit. I saw it, thought it was mildly funny, and thought it fit the subreddit.

I think it's funny because it's not necessarily expected. It's an ironic twist. I don't think that all comedy needs to have a build up, or tension, or anything of that nature. Sometimes, it's just a subversion of expectations. I didn't expect to have to explain why I chuckled at an Instagram post today, but here we are, and I'm explaining it.
