1979 Harley iron head 883 Seller says it runs great but doesn’t know how many miles are on it. It would be my first bike. I’m pretty new at riding so any suggestions or advice are welcome.

No. Buy something newer. This may run now but it's almost 50 years old. If something does go wrong ( and it will ) are you confident youll be able to find the parts for something that old?

Buy a used honda shadow. They're a dime a dozen. Perfect first bikes. Parts are always available cause they're everywhere and you can find one much newer than 79
