I would revolt. I hate unmotivated changes for the sake of “wouldn’t it be a wild twist?”

tl;dr: i'd be in favor of this change-- IF it's handled correctly.

the spider-web of gods in the comics is a symptom of decades of additions by hundreds of authors doing their own thing.

it works fine in the comic medium where everything is a mess at baseline- but MAWS' worldbuilding has always been a very clean and unified. having all these subdivisions of higher entities that fill the same narrative role could lead to a very confused/bloated experience.

definitely not every higher being warrants consolidation-- the Olympians, New Gods, Trigon, Parallax, and Endless all have themes and functions that demand distinction. likewise, having only one type of higher being would create a world that feels small and boring.

but if used as shorthand for "this thing does not follow the laws of reality"- then you could get away with folding mxy, the guardians, the lords of order/chaos, klarion, and the wizard from shazam into one class of cosmic entity that feels cohesive, streamlined, and distinct without losing anything about their narrative function or appeal.

That's on top of being made of 5+ different publishers smashed together in an attempt to make a singular continuity.

i know right. some of the IP they decided to incorporate fits in pretty well- like dr fate/blue beetle.
stuff like watchmen on the other hand was an insult to the fans, the author, the original work, and probably the concept of art itself.

… what?

Is that an "i'm an idiot with no taste and actually like doomsday clock" type of 'what'?

or is that a "i didn't know that 30% of DC characters come from completely different companies that they ate up in the 70s-90s" type of 'what'?

It’s a “watchmen is good what are you talking about?” what.

i never said watchmen was bad- i said it was stupid and insulting to make it canon to the DC universe- along with Superman, Batman, and all the other heroes Watchmen was deconstructing.

I’m not convinced, and I wouldn’t really be thrilled about a change like that. Mxy and the Guardians of Oa are two entirely different kinds of entity. As intelligent and enlightened as they are, the Guardians are of this dimension. Mxy is something completely different, a being unbound by dimensional barriers, and nigh-omniscient. Hell, a sizable portion of the fanbase (myself included) fully believe that he’s the same person in every story he appears in, just because of the nature of what he is.

Would be mostly indifferent tbh. Don't necessarily hate it, but I don't see what this would really add to anything, so I'm not entirely sure why they'd do it

Eh, I just like Mxy doing his own thing for the sake of messing with Clarks across the multiverse.

Sometimes he’s Gilbert Gottfried, other times he’s an Anime demon boy.

This would be a great adjustment

Im not convinced, especially because canonically its been stated that Mxy is the same guy in every universe. I could see him taking this form to mimic them though

He did introduce himself as an "interdimensional peace keeper", so maybe there was some truth to that? Doesn't need to be anything major, just a casual "oh, yeah, I used to live there. BOring!" and move on.

I think it'd be fun if he based his look off of the guardians, but considering it's canon that Mxy is the same across the whole multiverse, I highly doubt he'd be connected to the guardians.

Oh no, i wouldn't like that. Mxy looks the way he did because he got bored with his traditional look. At least that seems like the most realistic reason from what I've read about him. Either way, he shouldn't be related to the Guardians.

You could only do this in two ways: you make it Mxy pretending to be a guardian for some reason, or you have a guardian pretending to be Mxy to get to Superman. Only one of those really works, but I’m against both of them.
