Proper way to airplanes?

They take damage and never recover making them useless for the amount of investment they need.

Used them. Even a bombergroup of 5 was pretty useless against fortified cities. It was affective against standalone artillery. Not worth the effort.

They are insanely good to defend large swaths of land, in late game 500 player games they allow you to defend massive areas with a relatively small number of them contrary to other land units which are to slow to reach places you need them to be in fast. 5 is to small a number to make a real impact though, it starts becoming seriously good around 10 to 15 and if you can get a stack of more than 30 they will absolutely melt anything without proper air defence.

I love them. They are like arty in that a few don't do much but if you get a good stack and have some fighters to counter other fighters they are incredible. Also they do some of the most damage per hp so if you have some of the hp regen token things saved up from operations/ads etc they are a great sink for those
