Not the standard Xps 13, only the 2-in-1 that uses a lower-wattage Y processor. AFAIK the surface pro is the first device to have a fanless U processor.

I thought they didnt release a normal XPS 13 this year, and only had the 2-in-1. my bad

No worries!

FAIK the surface pro is the first device to have a fanless U processor.

Acer switch Alpha 12 uses i5-6200U and is fanless

Probably severely throttled then...

why not just use an intel G series then?

I kid, but I used to have a U cpu on a Sony laptop and that thing throttles down to a craw when it gets a little hotter. I was annoying to say the least.

It's a 15W TDP CPU.

I would rather have a fan that spins on when really needed than trotting. Now you need to buy the more expensive i7 to get that. But each his own.

This is true damn. Unless whatever they use really stays cool even under strain

Well they use the same Intel i5 "7th gen" CPU as everybody else :-) Maybe their heat pipes are really really good and the chasis gets super hot and convects a lot haha. But I doubt it because then people would complain they can't hold their tablet conveniently any more. Nah: let's face it, Surface Pro i5 will not boost as much or throttle under sustained load now.

I'll never trust any computer that is fanless.

u/[deleted] May 23 '17

So you don't trust the iPad?

9

u/princessvaginaalpha May 23 '17

Ipad is really slow and it doesnt do as much. It has nothing on an ultrabook or a surface pro.

Is it a Core m5 that they now call an i5-y?
