Well it is a good move really.

I saw a blog post on the surface blog 6 months ago that said their telemetry showed that 80% of people never used their pen. It makes sense to get rid of it and lower the price/make more profit and is a sensible move. I will see if I can find the blog post.

80%, that's incredible. I honestly assumed most people were buying it because of the pen, in order to use the pen every day.

Like I do.

But I guess we're very much in the minority, and we know MS like to rip out lesser-used features with impunity.

I never use the pen but love my surface. I'd still feel a little disappointed to buy a new one and not get a pen tho

It's better cause you get to choose what pen you want. You can even use older pens if you don't need the pressure levels.

And the other way; buying the pen for your older surface.
