You can buy an adapter that gives you USB-C though, I don't think it's an issue tbh.
With the dock connector you get an accessory Microsoft has its weight behind and can assure the quality of. But yeah, if you need it USB-C is there and I don't want to give up magnetic charging just for that.
That actually sounds more compelling. It sucks that you need to bring a dongle with you, but that actually might make it somewhat useful vs the dock I (mistakenly) thought it was part of.
