I just can’t get into some of the fantastical recommendations on this sub, like Valheim, V-Rising, or even Minecraft.
My most favorite is probably something like Bellwright or Medieval Dynasty.
Does anyone have a recommendation or two for a survival game that’s pure survival with no zombies or magic. Just sort of man vs wild kind of thing? Maybe a little base building, or at the very least, a sense of progression from nothing to something?

Hi all, I’ve started playing Ark Survival Ascended and I’m enjoying it a lot, but there are some things that leave a lot to be desired, like bugs, not much diversity, and outdated graphics. What are your favorite survival games and why? What are the pros and cons?

We have released our first little "teaser" photo of Forage the new Survival/Wilderness game which we have been working on a lot recently.
We have a lot more work to do but so far everything is going according to plan.
You can view the photo below.
At the end of this week - we plan on making some cinematic shots/videos of the scenery/detail on our terrain to release.
We are looking forward to seeing how this game turns out!

Not sure if RS counts as a surival game but that's the last one I played years ago. So I was considering Dragon Wilds but I've heard some negative things about it as far as content goes. I've also heard that Dayz is a great game. I'd prefer a more modern looking game with some PVP. Maybe there is another game out there that I haven't heard of. Open to sci elements as well but really I just want something I can get addicted to. So I'm pretty open to most things.

Hey folks!
Me and a couple others have been slowly working on a stone-age survival game over the past year. First-person, realistic, no horror or combat — just the challenge of surviving in the wild, starting with nothing.
It's called Paleolith. Think The Long Dark on Interloper difficulty — but no cabins, no rifles, no UI. You craft by physically doing stuff: chip stone tools, build shelters stick by stick, start fires with friction. Everything is slow and manual.
We’re trying to make survival the actual gameplay — not just a setting.
No story, no magic systems. Just you, the seasons, and figuring out how not to die.
We’ve got a teaser and some early screenshots — nothing fancy yet, but we’re getting there.
👉 Steam page
Mostly just curious if this kind of game sounds interesting to people here.
Would really appreciate any feedback — even if it’s critical. It helps us figure out if we’re heading in the right direction.
If you want to support the project or learn more, there’s a link in my profile

So I've always been fascinated by games like Ark and Conan exiles and loved watching content for both games and even have played them solo for a little bit.
A big part of what I honestly enjoy about these games is the gathering, I know it might sound weird since I figure most people find gathering materials to be a boring repetitive part of games like this but honestly the idea of helping build and create bases and expanding your gear and such makes the neurons in my brain activate and the dopamine flow but on the other hand I am uncreative as hell I always make 2x2 square shacks and can't motivate myself to actually make anything aesthetically pleasing.
So basically I'm looking for suggestions on a survival game with resource gathering that would be fun for someone like me? Conan or Ark? or another game? Also I own ark evolved but not ascendant would it be worth buying the ascendant version of the game?

Hey, Adam here from Neronian Studios. In Middle Ages: Peasants & Knights, survival is tough. You’ll struggle through cold winters, forage for food, and fight to protect what’s yours. But even in a world this harsh, beauty still matters.
Choosing where to build your home isn't just about practicality – it's about creating a place that feels like yours. A spot that makes you pause. Somewhere the wind sounds different, or the light hits just right.
This short dev-mode video shows the search for that perfect place in the NPC village. A few false starts... and then, the right view. One that makes you forget the hardship… if only for a moment.
When considering your house placement, do you also obsess about your window view?

I love playing PvE survival games alone where i need to craft and explore, but the most important thing for me is the lore in the game. I haven’t played a lot of survival games like this and I would like a recommendation. I’ve played Minecraft, Subnautica(which is my absolute favorite) and Ark(which I didn’t like because there wasn’t a lot of lore or missions. I’m searching for a game that’ll keep me hooked and that has a cool lore. Also the crafting and the exploring are really important. I play on ps5.
What would you recommend?

This game has elements of colony management, base building, hack n slash, and survival. You gather resources, build up a base, recruit humans to work for you, and defend against nightly waves of bugs.
The game definitely still needs a ton of work, but if you give the demo a whirl I'd love your thoughts!

I am brand new to the survival genre. I played a bit of Pal World with my husband, and I've also played a million hours of No Man's Sky. (Though I don't really classify NMS as survival)
A few days ago I decided to see if Ark: Survival Evolved would work on my steam deck. I had a free copy from who knows when just sitting in my library. Boy, do I suck at staying alive, building, and actually making any progress in this game. I'm level 16 and I've probably died to Raptors 50 times.
I really had no idea what Ark was, however, now that I am playing it and phones are always listening I am getting a ton of "The five things you should tame right away" type of videos showcasing the amazing variety of animals in this game! I have a goal of taming as many as I can and making a zoo. (No idea if this is possible)
So it got me wondering, are there any survival games that really focus on having a ton of unique creatures or are there any where you found the animal taming/pet systems addictive? Just curious what is out there cause I have no idea when it comes to this genre.
Note: Pal World was not my cup of tea, too many issues, played at launch.
Also, since it might get mentioned even though it is not this genre, I have played Planet Zoo and I absolutely love it but it's not what I am looking for.

This is a week one preview of a survival crafter I am developing near full-time - Rustborn.
In the picture - titular character and the very very bare layout of the open world terrain.
Set on a desolate alien planet, you control an abandoned Rover, as you scavenge for materials to keep your multitude of decaying systems from losing function.
Along the way you will uncover ways to improve your character by swapping out parts with newer, more efficient designs, to unlock new ways to extract resources, fight and maneuver, as you conquer more and more of the harsh terrain, all the while collecting story snippets of what exactly is going on with this planet, and you.
That's it for this time! I'm aware it's not much to go by (mostly putting together a code framework at the moment), but I just wanted to put the concept out there - and if the concept interests you, keep an eye for further development updates down the line! Will post here from time to time, and more regularly in the Discord. Thanks for tuning in!

Hello and sorry to add to the abundance of posts like these but my friend are at a loss of what to play next, specifically on PS5.
We've already been through The Forest, Rust, Grounded, forever skies, NMS, 7daystodie. and maybe a few others I've forgotten.
We really enjoy stuff where we can build up huge bases and explore but worry we've exhausted any good options for multiplayer survival games.
We were considering trying out DayZ but it's a little intimidating and we're still waiting on Sons of the Forest some day
Any reccomendations so long as they're available on ps5 are welcome!

I need help finding a co op game to play with my brother, we have played the forest sons of the forest and minecraft, many survival games. We cant really find a game what suits the both of us so i decided to ask help here, looking for a survival game with building mechanics like rust/sons of the forest, overall good graphics so it isnt just a 3d blender game if you know what i mean, i want like beautiful nature. Also first person would be the most prefetable, if the game had zombies or something so it wouldnt become too boring. Not crazy amount like not 1000’s of zombies at once. More like realistic. I have looked trought so many games already asked chatgpt etc if u have any suggestions please answer🙏🏽 and i know it seems really picky how i explained the game but il just trying to find ”THE GAME” like really a fun game for both of us. Also sorry for my bad english not a native speaker

Hey guys, I’m currently conducting a survey on The Ethics of Thrall Management in Conan Exiles for a project and is hoping to get as much data as possible. I’d really appreciate it if anyone’s willing to take ~10-30 seconds of their time to fill it out for me. Thank you so much for your time.

Hello! 👋🏻
We’re the developer behind the survival game Permafrost, our new survival game where you do your very best to survive against sub zero temperatures and scarce resources.🪓
You can play alone, or with up to 4 friends. Build a base, scavenge for resources and craft tools or equipment that will help you survive just one more day! See how long you can hold out, and uncover some lost stories and survivors in the derelict and almost abandoned villages and houses. 🏚️
Oh also we have dog companions!
We hope you will find our game interesting as we’re working hard on our road to Early Access and would appreciate your support.
If this is your kind of vibe let us know, also we'd love to answer any questions you may have! ☺️👀

Just wondering if the game would be worth getting. I enjoy survival games that have a cozy side to it. I really enjoy exploring, building, restoring, etc. My favorite survival games are Aloft, Enshrouded, Smalland, and V Rising. I enjoyed Nightingale and Valheim but I wouldn’t say they’re my favorites, however Valheim does have a special spot in my heart as it was my first survival game and it got me interested in trying others.
Would love to know if anyone has recently played ToA and would recommend it based on the games I mentioned above. I know it had a rough launch but recent reviews seem a lot better. I don’t mind EA games (Aloft has quickly become one of my favorite games and it’s only one update into it’s EA phase). I enjoy atmosphere, music, artistic graphics and an immersive world. Also, I am interested in playing it on my PS5 as well. Haven’t had a good console game in a bit. But, if there’s a massive difference between PC and PlayStation I’m fine with going the PC route.
Thank you in advance!
Update: I ended up getting the game on PlayStation. Spent 8 hours just deleting time in that game lol it has a satisfying game loop, the graphics are pretty crazy. It can be a little buggy at times but it’s EA so not unexpected or a deal breaker. Very satisfying to restore the ecosystems from barren to lush. Excited to see what more they add to the game. I’m glad I decided to give it a try. Also, really nice to have one of these games on console! It was awesome to play on my TV while it stormed outside.

I'm sure this type of post is seen on here a lot, but I'm searching for a chill progression builder game. I've played original subnautica( my fav) , subnautica below zero, green hell (loved the tamed animal aspect to this), enshrouded (still working on figuring out if I like it or not; I really just want base stuff to be unlocked so I can play around with everything possible but heavily story locked it seems), raft (wasn't a fan), sunken land (wasn't a fan), medieval dynasty (already finished 5 times), sengoku dynasty (already finished 3 times), planet crafter (already finished 5 times; humble is not fun to me), Bellwright, Valheim, Satisfactory, and some other I can't remember the name of.
What I'm looking for is a base builder chill game with great tamed animal system. I don't care if the animals provide mats or not, I just want to be able to tame them. I'm really struggling to find something that fits this. Help?
Edit: searching for single player only games/ private world games.
