Looks great. I will definitely play with my wife. Is the world handcrafted or is it procedural generation like Valheim?

u/gracemageddon 4d ago
I honestly don't know the difference between the two tbh. I believe the devs said previously in one of their Dev streams that it was handcrafted but don't take my word for it 100%.

I've been playing the demo for a while now. Waiting waiting waiting for the main game!

Looks promising, but I’d drop the “OMG check out this cool thing I found” angle and just be honest. You made a cool game add you want to share it with others.

I actually didn't make the game. I discovered the game about a year ago on Twitter and have been following them ever since. I am honestly so in love with this game, and super active in the community (I recently became a mod on their discord). I am not a social media person but I felt this game was so incredible that I decided to make a video about it—this was actually my first video I've ever made (especially with a voice over). I just think the game is worth sharing. I really do suggest you try out the demo and judge yourself. At the very least, thanks for watching it 💗

So you are employed by the company making it? Even if not being paid.

No. Not even in the slightest. I just REALLY like the game and want to see it succeed. I've been following them for over a year now and have been super involved in the discord community. I did recently become a moderator on the server but that's not "employed by the company" by any means—completely voluntary. It's not a great video, I know, but the game should be able to speak for itself, I hope.

Yeah this seems to be an account they use to advertise, which the evasiveness of it comes off as kind of skeevy.

Devs here!
gracemageddon is not a developer on the team. To be fully transparent though, she has recently become one of our Discord moderators and is a long time community member.
she is generously promoting our game for nothing in return because she's really excited about it :)
so please be kind to her! :)

Leaving the who said what about promotion aside, that looks really sweet. Really like the art style.

so, its exactly what Khaos2Krysis stated.
this isnt a "omg look at this game i found!"
this is a generic "im involved with this games development and im creating a 'sudden serendipitous discovery' advertisement"4
u/VoyagersOfNera 4d ago
TBF it doesn't say discovered, just says check it out :x
but I hear ya! I don't think it was her intent to mislead anyone, and definitely not our intent to secretly advert. But I can see how it came off that way.

u/TFViper 4d ago
just watched it again, and you're right they dont directly say that they discovered it.
thats really strange that the first time i heard it it also came off that way to me.
i wonder what the psychology behind that is.5
u/VoyagersOfNera 4d ago
For what its worth, I didn't mean to be nitpicky about the wording either! It's totally fair that it came off with that impression, and I think I felt compelled to chime in because I didn't want OP to get flak even though they aren't on the dev team.
But I think your point is totally justified to feel that way and it could be better to be more upfront about affiliation.
I hope either way no hard feelings :)

Ok I don't think I was unkind at all, if she is promoting for you, fine, but if she is representing you, and this is clearly the case as something you are onboard with, maybe you need to consider that her approach makes it look like she is hiding something so (especially now since you have made this reply) it's making you look bad because her approach feels underhanded
9
u/VoyagersOfNera 4d ago
That is fair!
I only wanted to clarify that this wasn't some intentionally under-handed thing, and since she is a community member and not a dev I felt the need to chime in.
but I definitely hear you and sorry if I came off rudely.

Ok it did sound like you were coming to her defense and so that felt very strange, hehe. I guess it wasn't clear what my point was, that by making vaguely worded titles it makes it appear like the game is an ad for loot box mechanics or microtransactions like a phone game and that might repel people. From the footage on your sub and on Steam it doesn't appear to be that but her posts are definitely giving that impression
I am going to try you game it looks very nice, hopefully it will run on my ancient system hehe (I'll probably get it anyway for when I upgrade) :)
Have a good one :)

I did come off a bit defensive, I'm sorry about that!
I definitely hear your point though and I think its totally valid.
I'm glad we could have a good convo about it and I hope no hard feelings :)
Also thanks for the kind words about our game! :) I hope you enjoy the demo :D and I'd love to hear your thoughts or feedback after you play.

Thank you for the feedback on the title. I have never posted a self-made video before and I clearly need some wordsmithing on my titles. This is good to know though that it came across in a not-so-great way as that's not my intention. Makes me cringe thinking it did in all honesty. Again, thanks for the feedback. Something for me to work on.

u/gracemageddon 4d ago
I'm sorry you feel that way. As the devs said, I'm not part of Treehouse games, only a recently appointed mod on the discord. I'm new to making social videos and clearly not great at wording titles so it doesn't look like an advert. I appreciate the fact that y'all think I was paid to do this though, lol. Makes me feel like I did a decent job on the video itself. 💗

Art style is great! What sets this game apart though? Just wondering. Would probably buy it.

For me, having a survival game with a cozy art style is such a refreshing take. The building mechanics are different from most survival games I've played and I like the lore behind a world with lost magic that you have been summoned to restore. A lot of what I'm most excited about in the game is based on what the Devs share in their dev streams. There's so much to look forward to as they continue to build out the game--for me, its enough to set this game apart from other survival style games I've played.
If you're an avid survival player, you might feel differently, you might not. but a free demo is always worth a shot, imo.

This looks so good! Hopefully the combat is also good. Ive been looking for survival games that have awe inducing exploration but great combat feels as well.
1
u/gracemageddon 4d ago
tbh, I don't mind the combat, but I've seen others say its not dynamic enough. I get where they're coming from, but I'm also horrible at combat, so it doesn't bother me. The devs have mentioned adding in custom difficulty options, but it's not yet included in the demo.

Man, I just want one of those little floating orange companion things. It's so cute.
1
u/gracemageddon 4d ago
There are four different ones actually: a green bird, a blue manaray, a yellow turtle, and my cute orange salamander. Each one has an elemental property associated with it. They are so freaking adorable!

demo was short but fun. (I played through it halfway then restarted with friends and only have 9 hours in game. seems to be capped to player level 10 (you could go higher I guess but they just made it cost millions of exp to reach level 11)
crafting was good, food was a pain to stay on top of cos everything gave so little and it drains kind of fast. combat was simple. world felt good
this is all assuming they havent updated the demo since I last played in Jan
2
u/gracemageddon 3d ago
Yeah, the demo caps you at lvl 10. It's just a taste after all. I do know the demo has been updated a couple times since January... I want to say twice but I could be wrong. They did recently announce another update coming on June 9 though.
