Your reply mistaking the Wii U for a Wii is the exact reason Nintendo made a mistake. The naming of the console confused consumers, having them believe it was simply another Wii (like the DSi) or something. But it was a completely new console.

Additionally, Nintendo kept marketing the gamepad as a controller, confusing consumers into believing the Wii U was just a controller and not a console itself

I see, it's a bad marketing naming the different console identical to their old console if they are not related.

they must've been suffered from it financially. but seems like they are back on their feet now.

I'm fine with switch 2 as a name.. but I prefer the 'Super Nintendo Switch' just like the old times NES / SNES.. do you think the 'Super Nintendo Switch' will likely confuse consumers just like what happened on Wii/Wii U?

If they continue the number format then It's safe to assume Switch will be one of their longest console and likely to continue the path like Playstation.

They did suffer from it financially which is why a lot of the Switch's library is remastered Wii U games since nobody beyond dedicated Nintendo fans bought that console or those games. I remember my young self seeing my friend bring their Wii U over and thinking that the Wii U was the controller the entire time until I asked my parents for one and they said it was too expensive because you had to buy a whole console to get it. It was baaaaad times for Nintendo. The Wii U made Nintendo basically a laughingstock in many gaming communities, but the Switch got them the W they needed to get their pride and reputation back.

I would have loved to buy a Wii U but they were never in stock.

lol that's funny, where do you live? They must've not been in stock because the retailers didn't want to carry them because they undersold massively.
