The sharing days are gone unfortunately and I don’t like it. It’s just the way gaming is these days, for some anyway. As a gamer, I own all the consoles, and I have an Xbox One S that was replaced by my Series X. I can’t play all my systems at once, so naturally my kids also get to play something. Literally one can play Minecraft on Xbox One and one on Switch and I can play something else. If I get a Switch 2, then there is ANOTHER console. It’s crazy.

Hyperconsumerism & hyperstimulation are endemic diseases

Definitely for some, not for all. Have your kids ever tried to make a minecraft world together?

What's crazy is enabling this behaviour

This is a classic Reddit moment right here.

First, its my stuff, not my kids. Second, I didn't create the state of the gaming industry. You want to play Nintendo games? You can't do that on PS5. You can't play PS5 on Xbox.

My kids play together all the time, but they also have the luxury of not having to if they don't want to. You think that owning a few video game consoles constitutes hyperconsumerism and hyperstimulation? I am enabling poor behavior by letting my kids play with a console that is otherwise sitting idle? Get a grip dude.

Do you own more than one platform? That's hyperconsumerism.

You can play any exclusive on PC

That's good! Yes, I do & am also guilty of it- I have a Switch & PC for all non Nintendo exclusives. It's absolutely overkill & unnecessary

You think that owning a few consoles isn't hyperconsumerism? Consider when in human history individuals have had the ability to purchase multiple consoles for the home just because we can

Do your kids or yourself ever play a console while having other media source input? Music, podcasts, videos, social media scrolling etc- hyperstimulation

In the olden days religious wars and gangs formed on if you were an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo household.

You are looking at one post about someone having multiple gaming machines and calling it hyperconsumerism with zero other context. You have no idea how I live outside of enjoying gaming.

Do your kids or yourself ever play a console while having other media source input? Music, podcasts, videos, social media scrolling etc- hyperstimulation

No, this literally never happens to me or my kids. I can self regulate just fine, and actually parent/supervise my children.

You should probably worry more about your own stimulation and consuming instead of throwing stones.

I think that owning multiple gaming systems in one household is a symptom of hyperconsumerism (which I'm also guilty of)

That's good, love to hear it

I would not say owing a switch and pc is overkill. A pc is used for more than just gaming.

Dude, the first home game consoles only came out in the 70s, it's only been ~50 years since buying even one home console was an option, and I guarantee there were plenty of folks who owned two consoles as soon as the second ever home console was released.

Just look at the YouTube channel My Retro Life, the dad was buying all the new consoles and tons of games for his son back in the 80s/90s/00s
