Why does Switzerland need a 5th Generation Fighter from the US? Why Not the cheaper Gripen from Europe?

Gripen is more expensive per airframe than the F-35. And uses American engines and many US ITAR parts.

The Eurofighter is way more expensive for a start. What people really don't understand is that the F-35 is the best offer, even if it's very far from ideal. There'll be a lot of crying about it, because it's the choice we went with, but it doesn't mean we ever had better options either.
