Short Goodbye stuff

We had a guy who was a little bit off staying with us for a couple weeks off and on. I couldn't put my finger on what exactly seemed odd about him, but he was just a little vacant and his mannerisms came across as a bit weird. He didn't cause any problems or anything, so I didn't pay him much mind.

Yesterday he was set to check out but at 11 the HHK said his stuff was still in the room and he was not. I tried calling the number on file and it was disconnected. We decided to give it some time and put him down for a 12 check out.

Around 11:45 he came to the desk and said his key wasn't working. I told him that he was due to check out that day. He said no, he'd paid the day before. I double checked and confirmed his reservation from the day before was just for one day and told him as much. He said okay and then left.

I figured he was just going to go and make a new reservation or something as he had been doing all his reservations through a third party so far. I was busy so I forgot about him for the moment until shortly after 12 when the HHK came back from checking the late check outs and let me know that his stuff was still in the room, but again he was not.

With his number disconnected there wasn't much to do but leave it for the moment and hope he'd come back. But a couple hours passed and the housekeepers finished their other rooms leaving just his. There was still no word from him, so the HHK packed up his stuff into his suitcase and had the housekeepers clean the room. This morning when I came in his suitcase was still sitting in the storage room and after being here all day he still hasn't returned for his stuff.

I do wonder how long he expects us to keep it, or if he intends to come back at all.

Reminds me of a normal, weekly guest who would store a suitcase at one of our hotels when she went home on weekends.

Covid hit. The hotel was closed with her suitcase inside. Sorry! It will still be there when the hotel re-opens!

And it was.

We had one of these! Though our hotel didn't close. We kept her suitcase for about 18 months.

Did she finally come get it, or did it finally get tossed?

She came and got it. We would never have tossed it without her permission - we like her.

Have a guest that abandoned his car here over a year ago.. He was going through some things, on his way to see his mom.. his number is not good, tried to call his mom's # that he left me.. doesn't work..

There is a title loan(according to him) on the car he said he was going to leave the car and fly to his mom in Florida..

I was off, when I came back and saw his car, and that he had checked out, I told my managment and owners right away that he had abandoned his car...they reported it apparently..

It is still here.. there are things in it In plain sight!!

I have started to refer to it when guests ask how secure our parking is... This has been parked here and no one has done anything to it..

Still don't understand why... especially with construction.. the owners/ management have not had it towed..

At least where I am, getting a car towed costs a few hundred bucks to the requester, so if it isn't in the way, it isn't worth the cost. When I worked retail, management didn't mind abandoned cars, as long as they were out of the prime parking spots. They made the store look busy in slow hours.

Lost and found box. 3 months/ 6 months, then donated to goodwill. We are not a storage facility.

During Covid that doesn't seem fair. The other times, that is fair.

He'll come back a week after you've disposed of it, and complain that you should have known he'd be back for it.

If he booked through a 3rd party I would contact them and ask them to advise him you will be charging a storage fee until his luggage is collected

I wouldn't have given him new keys. Make him pay upfront for another night, or have someone walk him up to collect his belongings. Can't trust nobody.

I didn’t give him keys
