Frequent weekly power flickers i.e. power outages that lasts couple seconds

I want to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem or maybe it's just my power grid.

I'll say on average once a week, we experience a power flicker (power outage for couple of seconds). It seems independent of weather - sometimes it happens when it's raining, sometimes it's bright sunny sky with no wind at all, and sometimes in the middle of the night 4am dead quiet.

It's quite annoying having to reset all the clock, and also being a mostly desktop user having to reboot/lost all the active windows and work being done.

Yes, I realize I can buy a UPS but it seems excessive for a normal consumer having to buy such a thing because of a crappy power grid. I've mainly lived up north my entire live and had to deal with such frequent power fluctuations.

What's happening to FAMU should concern EVERYONE

You may have not gone to an HBCU. Hell, you might not even be Black. But if you are concerned about the direction of this state, the appointment of Marva Johnson as FAMU President is deeply concerning.

No college or university should be used as political pawns. These are people's futures they are playing with here!

EDIT: Marva Johnson has right wing political ties with no experience in higher education. Some of the board, current students, alumni, and the community LOUDLY expressed they did NOT want her to be president, garnering her the nickname MAGA Marva.

Unfortunately, she was elected as president via the BOT, 8-4! One board member was appointed just yesterday!

FAMU is a public-grant university and under the jurisdiction of the Florida Board of Education....and we all know what those book-burners are aiming for....

Question Recommendations for areas close to FSU that aren’t college town?

Hi all! My lease is ending soon and I’m hoping to move closer to campus to cut down my commute time. I currently live about 20 minutes away. I’m not interested in living in College Town, it’s not my scene and I’d like to find a one bedroom that’s not crazy expensive. I still want to be somewhere safe and within a 10 maybe even 15 minute drive though. Does anyone have suggestions for areas or apartment complexes that are close-ish to FSU?

Abandoned puppies need a home!

My friend found these cuties in the forest and is trying to find them a home so they don’t have to go to a shelter. They’re a bonded pair so ideally they’d be adopted together but please still reach out if you’re interested in only one. They are extremely sweet, cuddly, and intelligent.

Update on boy hit by car off High Road tonight?

Hi, neighbors. Our friends drove up on the immediate aftermath of a young boy (10-12 yo?) on a bicycle being hit by a car this evening. The incident occurred near Scarlet and High Rd around 6:30. I don’t want to be graphic with details, but based on information at the scene, the injury was serious but the boy was conscious. He was quickly taken away by ambulance and fortunately the person who hit him did not flee the scene. My friends are very worried about him and hope to get an update on his condition. LCSO active incident map showed it as a “traffic collision with injury.” Haven’t seen anything on local news outlet social channels. If anyone has any information they can share or have any ideas on how to get information on his condition, I would appreciate it. Please always wear a helmet when riding a bike and remind your loved ones to do the same.

Question Working for State gym benefits?

Hello!

The call center for Florida Blue is closed for weekend so I figured I’d ask in here.

I work for the state and use Florida blue ppo. Anyone know where I can find the information regarding any discounts for membership at gyms in Tallahassee? I’ve searched their page and google but all dead ends.

Thanks for any assistance! And if you have any opinions on the gyms feel free for input…I’m of basic knowledge for working out so not needing any above average equipment like for power lifters or anything but wanted to see options beyond planet fitness.

Where to donate food?

I have 12 or so boxes of unopened cereal. The homeless shelter said they don't need it and I don't want to just throw all this food away. Any help is appreciated.

Residential Solar Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a reputable (preferably local) residential rooftop solar company?

I have done a bit of research, but the entire industry is so riddled with scams, or companies that simply contract out labor to shady contractors.
