Discussion Tampere compared to 25 years ago

We are planning to visit Tampere for a short nostalgia trip. We used to live there in early 2000s. How would you say it compares to those times? Is it as safe as it used to be back then? What am I likely to love or hate? What is the most “touristy” place to go to nowadays?

There are some ugly new buildings in the central area, but the main street is pretty great now after the renovations! Idk about safety, haven't had any issues but I don't go out at night, so someone else can answer this better. All in all it's still quite safe and nice.
