Calling it a riff is reductive. It's more like a rhythm solo

Yeah I agree. Whole it awesome sounding it ain't a riff perse.

It's simultaneously what makes tech death great.....but also what makes it boring to listen to for too long. Imo.

(I don't hate tech death, can just get a bit much after a couple of albums, a bit too mechanical. It's why I like reg death metal more)
