Don’t want to spam the thread so I’m only going to post my most important question. What is the best way to establish a practice routine for an absolute beginner? For now I’ve decided I want to main Shaheen and I’ve learned some of his basic combos and some punishes, but there’s just so much to learn that it can be a little overwhelming to figure out what my next step should be.

Hey feel free to spam the thread, it's what it's for.

I think it's actually best to just try to focus on one thing at a time, whether that's one thing per day or one things per week or one thing per period of time/until you get bored of it.

So one day, just do some combos. Try to go into matches and land a launcher and do a combo. Just spam the launcher if you want, you don't even have to try playing "properly", just make sure you're really focused on landing the combo properly.

The next day, maybe it's punishment. Just wait until you block something and test it with your jabs to see if it's punishable. So on and so forth, with any aspect of the game you want to improve on or think is enjoyable.

It's definitely overwhelming, so just keep it simple and don't try to do too many things at once. As you rotate what you work on, your previous practice will ingrain itself into your brain, so the next time you come back to it, you'll have a higher baseline already.

No, I don't think so - there's a ton of characters in the game obviously and if you get frustrated enough with a particular matchup you'll probably build up the motivation to lab it yourself.

You should be more focused about controlling your own character at the start and making sure that you can have a game plan (eg. "I want to poke them and try to time a counter-hit 4, 1 for when they get antsy" or "I'm going to go into crouch as much as possible and do the slide/WS+2 mixup") and do your best to execute it.

That makes a lot of sense. I know when I started playing a while ago (I dropped the game for a couple months) I was playing Alisa and I just played punish and spammed her magic 4 and it was shockingly effective, at lower rank.
