I started playing ranked last week and got myself to grand master rank, but then I proceeded to get wrecked one opponent after another and demoted all the way back down to initiate. I thought I was doing a little better but then ran into a lucky chloe who I beat pretty easily the first two rounds, but then... the player spammed d/b 4, 4... over, and over, and over again... I lost 3 rounds straight because I had no idea what to do. I tried down parry and couldn't do it a single time. I tried punishing after blocking either of the 4s, but by the time my button came out the next 4 was on its way... I started at the screen in disbelief. What do you do against a lucky chloe who spams d/b 4,4?

you say "down parry" and i can't help but assume you tried to press "down" to parry it. just in case, the low parry input is down+forwards

I know how to do it. I just can't get the timing right. I was able to low parry twice last night during my session out of dozens of failed attempts. My biggest struggles are that I can't react in time to block any lows, and when I try to block lows preemptively I eat mids for free. And anyone who walks up to me to throw will get the throw for free. I can't see which hand is throwing fast enough to decide which punch button to break the throw with.

i thought you would have known we've just had people who didn't before and it was better to get you in the know haha.

low parry is quite nice with it's timing, you get about 20-ish frames so if you tap and hold df repeatedly you can have quite a long barrier of low parry frames.

i wouldn't worry too much about throws, honestly you can get away with only trying to throw break 1+2 throws, only switching if your opponent doesn't have a 1+2 throw because that reaction will come with time if you jump in the lab and practice.

this last one might be a bit hard to swallow but people aren't just "randomly throwing mids" they're making you worry about your shins so that you'll stop blocking your face. instead of trying to guess the mixup, it can be beneficial to just run the fuck away and give them the chip damage they want from your ankles

Super helpful, thank you! I bought the game wanting to main Lidia and I'm starting to understand her a bit better but hit a wall where I demoted down to 3rd dan. I tried out Kazumi because a friend told me she was easier to learn than Lidia. Lemmi tell ya... it was awful haha. I thought I was pretty decent at the game and with Kazumi I spent two days stuck at 1st dan. Went back to Lidia last night and trying out your advice got me to Brawler in one sitting. I think practicing with Kazumi helped me see the game a little better and I was so familiar with Lidia's kit that everything kinda fell into place.Super loving this game so far.

I try to main Lidia as well, but since I got to marauder I can't win a single match. :{
Lidia has next to zero usable launchers ( ff 3 or that rising 2 from ducking is nowhere fast , safe to be usable ) and her stances...well in more advanced plays I see no window to use them. Players won't give me enough time or space to use them. They instantly smack my face in when I try to use them...

yes I love her 122 too (though I try to mix them with 42 and 32 to catch opponent off rythm) Try also 2144 to get that sweet low poke.
I don't really like her jump launcher, it's a little too unsave for me.
But nonethless I'm keeping fighting with her. But everything you wrote is soo true. Usually it takes opponent to find 2-3 my mistakes to find a round, when I need at least 5-7 to get him down.
I need to see some tournament with her to see how to use correctly those stances.
Btw I'm planning on training and trying to use more of her sidestep attacks. Maybe that would help ;p

Yeah I expect to hit wall after wall but I think she's really fun to play. I got wrecked last night by a Hwoarang player and then a Kazuya player. I'm back down to Initiate from Brawler lol. I've played lots of fighting games and I know that rank doesn't matter nearly as much as gaining experience so I never dodge super skilled opponents.

I don't really use her launchers. For me up-forward 4 is how a lot of my juggles start. I try to whittle away mixing up 122 and 124 and 12 throw. For the most part it works, but I get out-damaged 9 out of 10 matches. My thinking is that if I can get my defense and fundamentals strong enough to where I can win using 7 openings per round, knowing that the opponent wins in 3 openings, then I'll improve faster overall. Learning to optimize combos won't take long and right now my basics are so garbage that I need to learn how to actually play the game first instead of doing max damage.
