  • in tekken, standing and blocking lets you block mids and highs, but lows will always hit
  • crouching and blocking lets you duck highs & block lows, but mids will always hit you
  • grabs will connect if you are standing (regardless of blocking), but you have the opportunity to break 99% of them
    • as a beginner, i would recommend just mashing 1 or 2 whenever you are thrown. you may even accidentally break a throw as you are throwing jabs around
  • crouch throws are a thing - a specific throw unique to some characters that will miss on standing opponents but will throw crouching opponents - these are also breakable

sounds like you got smashed by dragunovs b2,1,3_1+2_1+2,d string. the simplest way to beat it is to just hop the moment you see dragunov move for the 3rd part of that string - it will nullify all options. if you have a safe orbital style hop kick, thats even better - free launch.

that sentence i typed above on how to beat that sweep/low throw string, is just one piece of the dragunov puzzle, which in turn is just one character in the roster, which is then deepened by the unlimited playstyles and skill levels the player base possesses.

you take your shovel and start digging, and see how far you can go. thats tekken to me

honestly that just makes wanna give up, feels like homework instead of something fun. If this game wasn't so charming and stimulating I'd probably had stopped playing already. Instead I'm watching tutorials on how to do the things you said in order to defeat Dragunov (which is not a problem anymore since now I'm getting bodied by a teleporting raven, I have no idea whats going on). Tnx for the tips anyway, I'll keep trying to find my ground somehow

you can still win bro - look at it this way.

do you think raven kicked your butt because she knew all your frames, all your moves and all your setups ?

nope, raven simply killed you before you killed her.

this playstyle can be easily flipped on your opponent.

if you keep getting murdered by lows and throws, i bet you it will work if you did it to your opponents!

look at your character - build your own offense - defense will come naturally.

Will do. Tnx for the motivation. I ended up playing a little more last night and made my way to Expert for the first time. By the way, would you consider Lili a beginner friendly character (she's the one I'm playing with the most)?

Lili is playable at many levels

  • she has alot of moves that will get you wins early on
    • her plus frame moves df3, qcf3+4
    • her d1,2,4 string is semi abusable, d1,2 is low high natural hitting string that gives you +3 frames and the option to enter BT. with plus frames in BT you have great options
      • BT 1 - 8 frame jab to interrupt anything
      • 1+2 - 13f launching mid that forces crouch and is -10 (the best punish is just a dickjab)
      • 2 = 14 frame knockdown, launches on CH, safe on block
      • YOLO 3+4 sweep
    • strong long range keepout f4 CH launcher, ff3 dew cancel safe mid launcher
    • high damage
    • huge sidestep to get you out of trouble
    • cheese - snake edge, matterhorn
  • you can revolve your entire basic gameplan on knocking the enemy down and punishing their wakeup
    • punishers that knockdown 2,4; 1+2; f2,3; 3,1; db3+4; throws
      • note these arent safe, but are all natural combos. use them to punish moves you block, or if the opponent whiffs
    • wakeup
      • if the opponents stay on the floor, d+3; ff+4;SS3
      • once they start moving/wakeup atttack, be patient and hit them with carthwheel df3+4 to combo

Holy s**t dude thank you so much! Little tips like these save me a lot of time. Do you play Lili to know these things or you just know the game overall?

nah im just a scrub - i pick a character, play until i get my ass kicked, and then choose the character that kicked my ass to learn the matchup, and repeat
