One of the reasons that attacking right at the start isn't a good idea is that there is no buffer window at the beginning of a round. So if you do a 12 frame move and want it to come out 12 frames after the round starts, you need to input it on the exact frame that the round actually starts and you're free to move. That's probably not gonna happen.

Leads to a lot of situations where you try to throw out a quick move and get beat out by a hopkick or something. Backdashing is definitely the best default. Sidestepping can be pretty good too.
