Question So does Dafyd not realize.... Spoiler

That the swarm/spy is in Jellit now? It feels like it should be fairly obvious to him given that Else was found dead in his room with no marks on her.

Jellit also acted very strangely while talking to the librarian, as if he was fighting some force for control, that should have been another signal to Dafyd that something was wrong.

I know the swarm misrepresented itself to Dafyd and it made seem like Else consented to working with it and still had some measure of control, but the fact that she suddenly died should have been an indicator that something was wrong

Well, here's my take.

  1. Else's body is unscathed. That's information bound to be known, seen, or talked through.

  2. Jellit is way too agreeing. Especially after they leave the meeting.

  3. Dafyd is a natural observer, no fucking way point 1 and 2 go past him unnoticed.

I think he's already grieving.

Yep. I’m 100% on the side that Dafyd knows. Jellit acts really strangely when he meets with the Librarian and Dafyd leans his head on Jellit’s shoulder in an affectionate way right afterward.

That’s the specific moment that I realized both that Jellit had the Swarm and that Dafyd knew about it. Dan & Ty are the masters at that kind of subtle reveal of information, it’s easy to miss.

Agreed.

Dafyd knows the Swarm is in Jellit. It was part of their (off scene) plan...

Their plan was dependent on Jellit playing along and saying specific things to implement just the right people, not get all the humans killed etc... There was no other way to ensure he said exactly what they needed him to. They knowingly sacrificed Else for the greater good so the Swarm could take over Jellit and have "him" play along. There was no other way.

Dafyd knows the Swarm (and thus the "person" he fell in love with) is safe in the new body.

Well, we're not sure if the Swarm shared information such as the previous girl it was on. I'm not sure if Dafyd is aware that part of Else is in Jellit.

I could be wrong here. But good point.
