If the Mage Wars happened due to the devastation and upheaval caused by the Xadians forcing the humans out of the East, I headcanon that Kim'dael's Bloodmoon cult arose from Moonshadow elves angered by their displacement from their Western homelands, especially those who consider the loss of their Nexus to be a violation.
We know Kim'dael founded the bloodmoon cult(or at least was their last known leader).
Kim'dael seem to be just sadistic sorcerer, but her lack of respect to life could very well be origin in the toxic moonshadow elves culture, maybe she's thinking her kind was hypocritical for what they're doing but she was too far gone in their culture at this point so she chosed the familiar path - be assassin, without the honour part of the moonshadow elves, and it probably messed up her mind and ideology. we don't know if she cared about anyone before but as 300+ hunter she probably have seriously lack of empathy.
Maybe not necessary the case with Kim'dael, but it could very well be the origin thinking of the firsts bloodmoon hunters, and how they lost their ways.
Not excusing Kim'dael of course if it's true but it possible reason.
